VAIL» One-day lift tickets to ski at Vail or Beaver Creek are now $129 for people who walk up to the window to buy them at the resorts. Meanwhile, Aspen Mountain has raised its walk-up, single-day lift ticket price to $117, the Aspen Daily News reports. People who buy in advance, online or for more than one day — or who can wait until after peak season — can pay lower prices.

This was just a wow moment for me! Up $30 in 2 years! pricey! :-o

That is ridiculous! I made a thread a few weeks ago about the most expensive list ticket, and on Vail's website they listed during peak skiing it was $115/day. What changed? That is crazy considering I can buy a season pass at A-Basin for $159.

Vail is overrated anyways, it's all marketing

Is that the holiday rate?

the search criteria was from now until January 11th at walk up window rate. Searches after the 11th weren't showing me the walk up rate for some reason. I would assume the walk up rate would go down as as the peak season time changes, but to me that means if you are traveling over any sort of holiday, that looks like your number if you will buy on spot.

a family of four is five bills for a day of skiing? Ouch!
I think all it does is discouraging day trippers though.

I got the impression majority of Vail's visitors are from out of town and doing a "holiday" for a week type. So they've got their lift ticket as a package of lodging (and maybe including flight). They may not see the same increase in price. Or even if they do, it's just a drop in the bucket, the bucket being flight+hotel+rental+lift+meal.

Vail/Beaver Creek has a DIFFERENT clientele for sure! I have a friend who was last cut from making the PSIA East demo team last year, who moved out to Vail this season too teach after years at Mount Snow- she's currently about 1/2 way through a 15 DAY private lesson with a teenage girl! Her going rate for a full day private is just under a grand a day (before tip!) So those parents basically got their daughter a 20k plus lesson!!!

Fortunately when i'm out there with my family in about 2 months, one of my kids all time favorite instructors will give me her special rate of a dinner or 2 and some drinks for her great skills!

129 is a lot considering the lines are often at full maze. However, Vail and the Beav are really fun.

At Vail its all about buying early! You can get an unlimited season pass with no blackout days good at Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckingridge, Keystone, A-Basin, Heavenly, Northstar & Kirkwood for around $500 if you bought it early enough! In fact most Vail season passes pay for themselves with as few as 4 or 5 days on the mountain. Vail resorts subsidies its really cheap season passes with really expensive day tickets. Their business model is to get even the casual skier to lock in and buy a season pass before the season starts. So in early Oct or Nov people who are planning a 1 week ski trips during the winter buy the pass and then lock into visiting the resort.

If you're going to Vail don't forget the 30 bucks to park, so you can then take a shuttle, so you can then walk across their fake village. Awesome.

It's sad for the sport to see these kind of prices... Really $74 for a 5 year old to ski at Vail for one day. Not helping new generations get into the sport. I don't know the area, but hopefully there are other smaller resorts for families to get their kids into the sport.

It doesnt matter. The struggling family of 5 isn't likely to chose Vail due to its' price-point anyway, and there are plenty of places that will cater to that market just as Vail caters to its' market.

I don't know the area and I hope you are right that other local areas offer an alternative. This year, around my neck of the woods, I decided to drive one of my sons 90 minutes from our home to get his lessons as local options weren't attractive to say the least. I know a few other families that wanted to get their kids into the sport, but local prices discouraged them and they weren't as fanatic as I am to drive 3 hours round-trip for a weekly ski lesson.
