pretty sure 2/48 was due to wind holds. Back up to 7/48 this AM which is... not great... but better than 2 šŸ˜µā€

What are we thinking? Polecat by MLK? Lower Lynx for Presidents day?

Breaks my heart reading that Vail still DGAF about such amazing terrain.

While I agree with the cat situation - Hunter has been open earlier than usual, and with a lot more terrain than in the past years....

However, While there is a ton of snow on the westside and has been there for at least a week - it has not opened because the 2 winch cats broke down and are stranded there. Last year a cat was broke down on dropoff with some sort of leak, and large bolts were found on trails.

Additionally, the 6 pack, the flyer to the top broke down 3 times today. Yesterday I was on it for 45 minutes. For the last 5 years there has been an issue on tower 13. Still is !! Everyday it is down for a while especially in the cold and wind. they will not fix the issue - total disregard for the customers, and endangering the lift mechanics - see photo below , and ski patrol!! Photo from yesterday's tower 13 ordeal.

How do you think they work on sheeves? While dangerous, the worker is wearing a harness and appears to be proeprly tied off.

Shit breaks and you have to fix it sometimes in precarious places

Yes. Always on Tower 13.

Sensor, brittle bar issue. Saw a guy climb up there with a 3" crowbar a couple of seasons ago in crazy wind.

A distinction without a difference for epic pass holders with vacations booked.

True, but I believe the point was it is also outside of Vail's control. Would be no different than Killington shutting down for some reason and people trying to blame Alterra that had planned vacations using their Ikon passes there.

Re: Telluride

I was SHOCKED to see the headline that they are closing for what is a big holiday break. That really makes the PCMR mess last year pale in comparison. A HARD closure will really hurt. I am not sure if they are doing well snow-wise. That area can be feast or famine for snow.

If Telluride really does work on fairly small margins, they maybe he'll just sell to Vail or Alterra if this becomes too much of a headache. If that town thinks it dislikes Chuck Horning, they may be in for a rude awakening.

Well, apparently Stevens Pass skiers and riders from Seattle cannot access the ski area. Not easily at least. And as to Vail returning money or rolling over passes? Hell no. Folks can STILL drive an extra two hours each way to get there!
