I have been told by someone who works there (who wants to remain anonymous since, as we all know, Wachusett is as close-mouthed about operational issues as Bill Belichick) that there is a problem with the summit chairlift and it will probably be mid-December before they are able to open any summit trails.

Ah, well.. whatever.

I wouldn't pay for a day ticket without the summit trails, but I've got a pass so I'd still ski there even if all that was open was ollie's.

It seems like there is always something at the start of the year. They run the summit quad all year, you'd think they might want to take a break for maintenance before the ski season.

Oh man, Then my friends and I wasted a lot of money on silver century passes since we normally hit up Wa every weekend morning til Xmas. The minuteman quad-served terrain absolutely sucks ass and will be a zoo.

Ridiculous.

Seems kinda ridiculous they would stay tight lipped about that. If that's true this may be the last pass I buy there.

Wachusett redid all the controls for the Summit lift over the last couple months and I *suspect* there have been some issues due to that.

Indian Summer added to opening day list. Also, website is moving at good speed again. Just gonna suck with no summit in the near future... and no half-pipe this winter I hear?

:-(

Just bought my Bronze pass (thought about the silver, glad I skipped it)... I was looking forward to going with friends who took the survey and got the free pass for before thanksgiving... will probably still go, but with no summit lift it won't be as fun.

sigh... I hope it isn't down too long.

For all you rumor mongers....I've got one for you.

What if the summit quad was up and running this weekend and servicing Conifer?

I'm not saying it's going to happen...but the quad was running today, and I heard there is a push to open Conifer.

Call it an early Christmas present. *if my source is correct*

Just got a reply for my E-Mail:

Hello,
Sorry, but at this time the web camera will not be on the website, as soon as we can get it running there will be a link to the camera on the homepage.
No particular reason for Conifer not being the first trail we open, we will be working on summit trails soon.
Pricing for this coming weekend is still be worked out because it will depend on the number of trails that we can get open. It looks that the pricing will be around $35 or $40 but that is not definitely decided yet.

I hope "no particular reason" is the truth. If Conifer is open by next Friday, I'd be more than happy to just consider this weekend a bonus and really get it kicked off on the normal opening day. It would tick me off to see them pull a last year again though. Last year was kinda understandable with the splice problems, but they have all summer to fix a computer.

I can confirm Sky's hopefullness... just checked the Weatherbug Wachusett cam and they're definitely blowing on Conifer. If that opens we're talking a terrain amount rivaling Okemo's opening day here...

Another edit: The lights are on on 10th too. I've always taken it that the lights on Conifer and 10th are on the same system and they always come on together, but I said that last year and it turns out they really were opening it in November. Can't see guns going but the cam isn't the greatest quality.

Me too! Maybe they got the lift glitches worked out faster than expected. Or maybe my source was wrong (that happens sometimes).

Boy, would it be great if we hit the mountain on Tuesday (the first day we can get there) and they were like 75% open! If they can get Conifer, 10th, Ralph's, Challenger, IS, and Sundowner open, that'd be more than enough to calm the ski jones ratio.

Course, as I said, since I have a pass, I'd go over and ski Ollie's if that was all that was open. Anything it takes to get on the snow!

Have they said they'll be open during the week? As I recall last year they opened early for the weekends, but not during the week. May not open again until Friday.

It is looking to me like wa will be super on Sunday!!!

Saturday night should be a perfect night for huge snowmaking output of really dry, fluffy manmade.

Hope I can get there!

In line at 0740 is the goal!

OK...so let's see. Who called Wa opening the summit this weekend?

Darn Alzheimer's....sounds familiar...just can't connect the dots.

As for the cross dressing, Don't ask, Don't Tell, Don't Pursue...Next Question?

Family event tomorrow. So Im planning to go Sunday AM first thing.

Taking Mrs Sky to see Jim Gaffigan in Boston Sunday evening.

Sky's rumors are almost never wrong.

Wachuett-wise anyway. The whole story about him giving-up on cross-dressing, notsomuch.

Well I'm not going to make fun of him for crossdressing, he could step on me and squash me like a bug.
