Well, 10 hours from now MA skiing will be underway nice and early. Even better news... besides a small hiccup Monday-Tuesday, snowmaking weather is here to stay through next week too.

Well, my little weatherbug on my FireFox browser window is mentioning the dreaded "R" word for Tuesday. Hopefully just drizzle and nothing that's going to wash away all that beautiful snow.

But then, yep, right back to cold temps and snowmaking for Wednesday!

I decided - I was a little irked because I didn't think I'd be able to ski today (I work on Saturdays), but I finally realized... I get out of work at 9. Wa doesn't close until 10. If I jet right over there, and boot up in the parking lot, I can be on a chair by 9:25. That's enough time for two runs down Ralph's!

WooHoo - my opening day streak stays alive (even if it is just two runs down Ralphs)!

(Of course, not expecting the early opening, my ski pants are at the tailors for much-needed alterations, which means I'm going to be the gaper-ish guy wearing jeans on the hill, but what the hell. I'll be skiing for the first time since April.)

I like your attitude....nice play! Streaks are important.

I think you might get a treat regarding a surprise open trail if the snow report is correct....

Was nice today... Ralphs and Challenger is great shape. Conifer and maybe 10th come out tomorrow. Does look like a period of rain coming Tuesday followed by another cold blast, so if they do have to close because of the rain, I imagine they'd reopen by Friday.

I got to the mountain about 9:15. Someone walking through the parking lot told me that Minuteman Express was down, so I headed straight over to the Monadnock triple. The lifty there said, "nah - they were down earlier, but they've been back up for a while now". I looked at the clock, did the math, and figured it wasn't worth the walk over there since by then it was almost 9:25.

So I did four quick runs down Indian Summer before the lifts closed for the night.

Conditions were excellent - nice and firm but not at all icy. There was a notice about thin cover, but as long as you stayed on the part of the trail that they'd actually made snow on, there was tons of snow.

My new skis performed admirably and my new boots were also great (although I did notice a couple of pressure points that I'm going to go back and have Leif fix for me).

Overall it was a great 40-ish minutes of skiing on opening day. Best of all, I kept my streak alive.

P.S. - I ended up not wearing the jeans. WAY too cold. Managed to dig out an old pair of ski pants I hadn't worn in a couple seasons because of a rip in a bad spot. Much more comfortable.

Sunday 11/23/8 wa

Pulled up to the front row about 0715 and had I think third chair up at 0745 - wa was excellent today.....nearly edge to edge and great conditions....ski up to lift most of the morning....ITC stayed off the hill till about 10:30 and clearly made efforts to stay out of the way....huge improvement from opening weekend last year.

Hooked up with a couple of epic buds and finally had the pleasure of meeting Sky....tho we didn't get to ski together I hope to next time....

Hill was full of high quality skiers tracking clean lines....very few intermediate or below skiers...those that were there appeared to confine themselves to Ralphs...

$30 after I got my 1/2 day $5 back at 1220....outstanding sweet deal!

The summit lift was starting to spin as I was leaving....unsure if it ever opened or not....no matter...I got about 25 solid runs in....great day.

Good job wa:beer:

Does anyone know what time the bar closes at Wa? I want to shoot up for an hour or two of turns but want to leave enough time for a couple of brews.

The Coppertop stays open past 10 during the season. The web page says "open for the season"...so, rip it up till the lift stops then have a brew. No hurry.

The cafe closes @ (or before) 10...so if you want a hot coffee for the ride (or someone wants a hot cocoa)...better quit early.

Not sure what time the restaurant stops serving food....after 10 for the Black Diamopnd bar for sure.

HRSTRAT! Thanks for saying hello! Great to bump into you finally. And thanks for doing the intros with SkiMangoJazz and OldEasternSkier. RISkier is still on my list of meet and greet! Also sorry we didn't get to make a few runs, although it was nice of you to give me that shout-out as you blew past me! *nice form pal* :>

Great snow on Challenger. Didn't try anyplace else...and left around noon. The summit quad wasn't spinning yet when I left.

I made a dozen or so runs...hard to keep track after 6 or 8. Everything feels great. Only my glutes are a tad tight.

Love those new Rossi boots! Comfy and warm! No hot spots yet. All Chicky Baby!

The intros are the hard part, skiing is the easy part. We'll get 'er done soon!

Happy Thanksgiving Sky. I'll drop you a pm next time I'm headed up!

Sky, you should join us. HRSTRAT, SMJ, & OES are great guys. Not an axe murderer among them. We've had some great days. Had an especially fun day at B'East last year.

Thanks for the info. I ended up getting up there a little earlier than I expected so I got to ski a couple hours then hit the bar just in time for the Colts/Chargers game.
