I'm sure they will open it for the event, but I don't think that lodge has been in operation for several years.

This is good news, putting the east back on the map. Much easier to hold these events than downhill and those requiring long runs. Last time at WV high school national girls. Many brought their dogs.
The snow was too warm, butt no one seemed to care.

Anyone go last year ? Thinking about checking it out next weekend.

I went last year to the event at Deer Valley, I highly recommend attending if you like mogul skiing, which, I imagine most people who are advanced/expert skiers on this board do. It's one thing to see it on TV, but to see the best skiers in the world ripping zipper lines in person is amazing. The aerial tricks are just a bonus to that IMO.

And if anyone happens to be in Park City in February, the annual Deer Valley moguls event is the only one on the World Cup tour that takes place at night, which just adds a whole additional layer of coolness to it with a party-like atmosphere.

I randomly wound up at DV the day of this event with some friends just before Covid struck. Feb 2020. Awesome day.

We watched some of the mogulers but left after it got dark. We weren’t really clothing prepped to be standing still watching at night as temps went down. What we caught from like 4-6 pm was awesome to watch

I also wound up at WV when some high level mogul comp was on. Maybe 2 years ago. Nationals maybe? Collegiate? I dunno. It was sick tho. I skied the woods next to the course and posted up right on the treeline next to one of the jumps, drinking beers and smokin bowls as people did flips to my left

At WV for the first time in years yesterday. What is the deal with their bubble lift? Runs half speed and half the bubbles have holes? Kanc 8 up the road is older and still looks new.

Last at WV 2021? Had the female high school kids GS race. Great Venue, good luck.

Speed Kills and I'm The Angel of Death.

There's not a lot of pitch; butt experts can go fast.

Very Easy to straight line the hill without gates.

Bit of a lemon. It was a prototype, only one in the US iirc. It usually works. Kanc has some issues too, but Loon has a much bigger maintenance/ supply chain operation.

I personally dislike any chair over 4 people. Build a gondola.

Getting more than 4 people to get their s*it together to consistently unload without causing a pileup is difficult. That difficulty increases with lift size. Besides, I'm old, despite my love for old and slow lifts, a few minutes in a gondy is nice break from the elements.

Always disliked the Cab at Mountain Creek. Ski removing hassle of a gondola, exposure of a chair, without the leg rest of either.

Any tips on best viewing spot, did they run out of parking, etc ?
Bumps are definitely better viewed from the finish area. And the way the courses are built, short of the 20-30ft non bumped in run to the two jumps that are part of the course, you can see everything from the finish area (as long as you aren't BEHIND the judges stand!)

I finally read the article and realized the comp will be on Lower Bobby's and not True Grit. I remember being there many years ago and watching training on True Grit right under the lift. But Bobby's is definitely better for viewing from the bottom.

Only time I've seen a real bump competition is a couple BMMCs at Killington which of course is always a good time.

Waterville is for some reason the breadwinner for total snowfall in NH this year at 89" and will be very close to 100% this weekend it looks like. If I ski somewhere in NH next week it just may have to be there.

BW is at 101” per their site. Hard to imagine WV beating BW for total snowfall any year.

I forgot to even look at BW...hard to imagine they're 60" ahead of Wildcat. Hell of a shadow from Mt Washington this year. But still only 12" ahead of Waterville.
