So I was skiing down Belleayre Run yesterday, making turns over little bumps under Superchief lift, and the tail of my skis strikes a snowboard.

No rider, just a board.

The board continued down the hill, gaining speed past me, then hit some powdery stuff and slowed enough for my son to zip over and stop the board on a more level crossover area of the trail. I leaned it up against a lift tower so the joker without a leash could find it, and am thinking I am lucky it didn't hit me in the head or anywhere else when it fell from the lift.

Thinnman, that's funny, I have a similar picture of a porcupine near the top of lift 8:

Interesting topic since we were just talking today about how we haven't seen a porcupine yet this year and that's very rare. A red squirrel did run across the trail in front of us at full speed ahead today, was pretty neat.....

A fairly large, live bear. Wandering onto the trail at the corner of the intersection between Belt and Racer's at Hunter, 12/23/08.
There is actually a mama bear and two cubs living on the mountain. When you are on the quad just passing over the belt look to your right at the first set of cliff/rocks. Not far into the woods at the base of the cliff/rocks is there cave.

I walked up racers at Hunter last April to do some last turns, found one of the old type ipods in the snow. Took it home pluged it in, and to my surprise it worked.......got rid of the junk music that was on it, and have been using it since!!!

its not a complete season till i have seen that porky. im guesing its the same one i have seen for the last 5 or six years. whats his name?

My multi-family skiing group has noted the lack of porcupine sightings too. Maybe the weather has been too bad lately? My son noted not seeing bark eaten off trees - hope there wasn't some food-chain disruption that chased them out of there.

Found the front toe box of a Lange Banshee shell on the top of Cannon. It was about 20 below that day.Must have been a great run down after losing that front part of the boot.My deceased buddy still has it nailed up in his ski museum with a note that says "toe jam".
