you never know

Know why I've skied before Thanksgiving and before Xmas this year, when I've only skied once before xmas in my entire life? 'Cause you've got to get while the gettin's good. You never know any more with our freaky weather systems whether the party is over or whether it's as good as it gets.

I've set aside vacation time with this strategy in mind and put my teams on notice that I may fly. Of course, some of this is the luxury of seniority, but from a practical point of view, I don't feel I have a choice, without limiting myself to a once a year trip out west.

Last year, my best ski days (I can think of 4-5) were spontaneous midweek powder days. Then it rained on the weekend. Repeat. I would have had a pretty crummy year last year without building in some flexibility.

Great point, billski. I burned a lot of vacation time early last year in an effort to log as many days as I could despite the weak start. I still had some great days prior to MLK Day, but going into this season, I decided to not push to get out as much early season. Looks like that strategy is going to have to head out the window.

I love the fact I probably won't be skiing this weekend or this week. I think this is why I gave up on powder skiing a long time ago. I always get frucked when the good stuff arrives so I stop worrying about it. I'll go when I can go. Ima give myself hypertension or some chit if I keep on like this.

Simply the curse of being a SNE skier. I rarely luck out either and don't normally chase powder myself.

What a week to be real busy at work...:-x I have the vacation time to burn but couldn't if I wanted to.

Guess I'll have to live vacariously through the rest of you...keep the trip reports coming. :)

Same situation here. I used to do those crazy 8 hour drives in the middle of the night up to Jay or Sugarbush when I saw the snow coming. But with a kid at home, that is no longer an option. Now I just ski when my schedule permits and hope for good snow.

Even still, I get all pissed off when I check out the powder TRs in my cube...

You've only skied once before Christmas in your whole life? How long have you been skiing?

Well, misery loves company. I don't even have any good excuses though. I have no kid and no wife (or husband, in your case). I just don't want to take a vaca day because everytime I do, it seems like chit blows up at work... and I don't want to pay for the gas to get me up there. Oh God, I'm becoming my father....

Ouch... and here I was, thinking that for the first time in months you and I would have an adult, civilized conversation. Clearly I was mistaken to think that your pea brain is capable of such a feat.

This means war...:uzi: ... even more war than usual that is.
