What are good speaker topics for a ski club meeting?

What will be the list price on the Vacuums?

IIRC, $790-990.00

They are $100-200.00 more than traditional counterparts. Worth it if you are saving time and $ in the fit process. Yes, we will be carrying them. While I don't need them, Trekchick will probably be in them due to her narrow foot, which instep and alignment needs.

Bootfitting can not be over stressed. Revisit it please.

i've never had custom boots. how much of a difference does it really make? I come from the set it & forget it camp

But I do always get annoyed when I feel certain movements, particularly in moguls, where it seems I can't clamp my boots tight enough. Then at the bottom of the run I realize I have cut off all circulation to my feet. (derr... that's probably my answer right there  )

BOOTS - Yes. (this would actually make a good thread

I agree. Nothing transfers your energy more directly than your boot. If the boot fit is sloppy your skiing is going to be sloppy because you'll have lot less control. Energy transfer is key.

At the same time could there possibly be a more boring topic? :dontknow: Certainly depends on the speaker. I think I'd be interested in a free consultation and a list of custom boot fitters in a given area.

No idea what your club's demographic is so this may or may not be appropriate but ...."How to handle accident/injury backcountry, sidecountry, on-piste trees." First aid is obvious, but also:
- how to contact patrol/rescue, how to cobble gear for emergency exit, what to carry (even for on mtn trees).
- Simple tips to improve safety: buddy system, where to keep your cell, tree wells, etc

Not to mention "how to deal with a pack of wild New England wolves after you've impulsively jumped off a ski lift in the middle of the night and broken both your legs"

that's a great idea regardless the demographic. It might be very worthwhile to people considering going into the woods and the idiots that go in unprepared. Or people who just want to know about it. I'm thinking about bringing in a NSP patroller who is skilled and spends time in the woods.

BTW, stay tuned on the book signing opportunity.

You guys rock!

"Shreddin' the Gnar with Highway Star" would guarantee a standing room only crowd
Or the blue patrol to clip his tick.

Re: bootfitter - If you need a speaker, you might want to drop Jeff Bokum a note (skiiboot@aol.com). He's up in Concord, NH. He was AZ's resident bootfitter for a while and gave us discounts. Gone to him several times and like his work very much. Very knowledgeable and shares a lot of good information. I think he'll make an interesting presentation on an otherwise mundane topic (mundane to non-gear heads, that is).
