True bump skis are great for what they're made for, but not alot of fun on the rest of the mountain, especially hear in the East. Great to have in the Quiver, but you need something else too.

No doubt true.

Certainly not for the groomed hardpack carver crowd.

But other than that, you can make them work fine in just about anything else. Not my first choice for anything other than bumps though.

OK, you can make them work. I could pull out an old pair of Rossi Stratos and make them work if I had to. I'm just saying they will hinder rather then enhance your skills over the rest of the mountain.

This past season I had the chance to ski with a extremely skilled bump skier (humbling, but fun experience.) When he's skiing other terrain the fats come out.

Well, I did say that bump skis would certainly not be my first choice for anything but bumps. Isn't that what you just said?

So, I could make bump skis work in deep powder, but they wouldn't be my first choice. I'd prefer a wider ski for that.

OK?

The bumps skis they're marketing these days are basically old school straight skis, with minor mods.

I'll demo the Volkl Dragonslayers too.

FYI - This year's Volkl mogul ski is known as the Rebellion. Designed by Jeremy Bloom. The dimensions are 89-63-78. I'm not sure how these differ from the Dragonslayers. You might be able to pick-up a cheap pair of last year's Dragonslayers, however.

Thanks, didn't know that.

I'll look, but finding a pair of bump skis, even older models, is pretty tough.

I ride K2 Apache X
and my girlfriend rocks K2 Burnin' Luv's ( only she has the breast cancer fund pink and white ones)
We both love them and the K2 line and are looking for "chiefs" or twin tips for me and "phat luv's" for her. Anybody have these? Thoughts?

My girlfriend has the Phat Luvs - the pink ones with the flowers. She loved them when we skiied out west last year, but I don't know if she's going to be able to use them more than twice here in the east next year. She also has the Lotta Luvs. She, um, luvs those skis. She also has Volkl 5 stars and Volkl Racetigers, but she likes the Lotta Luvs the best. They are kind of the middle ground betwen the Phat Luvs and the Burnin' Luvs.

I have 3 year old Public Enemys (179). They're okay twin tips - the newer models have a wider waist and a bigger siidecut, so they're probably better than mine. On thing about it is that it's pretty stiff compared to other twin tips, which you may or may not like, and it's a little bit damp.

To answer the original question, my everyday skis are the Fischer RX8's. I also roll with the Recons, PEs, and Dynastar Omecarves (which I don't really use anymore). For Tele, I have Dynastar Concepts and Karhu Jaks mounted with Targas.

I think you'd really like them - along the lines of your AC3's, they have a ton of energy and yeah, a blast to let run ... Prolly no fun in bumps tho ;)

Welcome back. Where ya been Catul?

Enjoying the summer, lots of golf, busy with the kids. But getting Ski and Skiing in the mail, then hitting the Alpine Haus sale to get the kids' gear has me salivating about skiing again!
