What Drives The Post Whore In A Ski Forum?

Is it a need to make their post count higher because of an obsession with numbers?
A need for attention?
They think they are adding to the discussion?
They are actually trying to extend the discussion?
Are they just friendly people who just like to chat and make small talk?

Now we all know GSS is a proud post whore and I know he won’t mine me using him as an example. Dude has twice the posts as I do in about a 1/3 of the time. What drives him and others of his ilk?

Do they have a positive effect on ski forums?
Are their 3 word replies a waste of time?
Do they ruin threads by going completely off topic while trying to be funny?

I’ve axed a lot of questions here, but just tell us your take on ski forum post whoring.

Maybe in some cases, but I don't think it's the norm. I sincerely mean it when I say I’m not putting him down, but I have to use GSS as an example again, because when I think of post whore I think of him.

He seems to have an active life, goes places, good job, has friends, lots of dates via match.com, so he’s not a no lifer at all. I think it might be a certain personality type that makes a post whore, but I can’t put my finger on it.

Post whoring is great because you can come and go without hellos and goodbyes, it doesn't require using the phone, there's a lotta funny commentary, and I learn something everyday.

i think it has to do with personality. he is a wiseass so he shoots in makes his comment and then is on to the next thing. its a problem a lot of our generation has we have the attention span of a fly. we grew up playing playing video games and watching tv. what do you expect. hey at least we are able to focus on at least one thing skiing.

I just like to write about skiing..and other things like lunch or if coke is better than pepsi. I have no restraint in my posts...since posting is free..I don't have to pace myself. Back in the old days when I was on the Ski Vermont Discussion list...people thought that posting 80 times in a month was alot...then I joined www.paskiandride.com and hit over 20k posts in 2.5 years and on here..I'll one day have more posts than Greg...it's just fun to post alot..
