see I don't get people who have ski socks. I used to wear them all the time, but then when I was a broke ski bum, I couldn't justify taking away from my beer budget to spend $8-$12 for a pair socks.

Ever since, I've just used whatever Fruit of the Loom tennis socks I find at Target; 6 pairs for $8 and the funny thing is my feet don't seem to get cold any more often than they did wearing the expensive socks.

5 year old Dolomites

You think maybe there's some correlation here?

I use the thinnest readily available sock on the market that doesn't cause chafing. I don't have a fit problem and I don't have any spare room in the boot for cheap tennis socks. Socks aren't there for insulation. They're for hygene. I know people who use ski boots barefoot. That's probably the best way to go in terms of fit and boot performance but I prefer to go with the thinnest possible sock and wash it after every use.

With boots, I really think there's no substitute for using a good boot fitter and getting matched the lowest possible volume shell and liner that best suit the shape of your foot. When you go that route, you simply don't have the spare volume to use cheap tennis socks.

You're probably right. I will say I never had a problem wearing everyday tennis socks with my Dolomites. They fit great, but they're now pretty blown out after 150 days or so.

I'll pick up some thin socks when I get the Kryptons molded and fit and we'll see how it goes.

I have a kid and a family and no ski house and I ski more than 1 day a week. It helps that I have a couple of weekdays off each week when the kid is in school I guess.

I'll add having a nine to five job. ;-)
