Okay. Here's this season's version of this thread. Here's my list from last year:
  • Burke
  • Cannon
  • Sunapee
I only made it to Sunapee and the 90 minutes I skied there barely qualifies as a visit. So Burke and Cannon are still on the table for this season. By hook or by crook, I'm going to make it to Burke. I'm even considering just day tripping it. If I really haul, I can make it to White River Junction in 2:30. How much further is Burke (trailboss?) another 1:15, 1:30?

I really want to try to hit Gore this season too. That's really at the outer edge of a day-trippable mountain, but it's doable. I'd love to try Whiteface too; a possibility...

So....how'd you do? I made it to Gore, but Burke still alludes me.... :???:

I made it to Pico, but that was the only new place for me this year. Pico was great.

Next year more northern VT trips will be a priority. It looks like we will visit Seattle, so we will also try to hit some WA mountains. Has anyone been to Alpental, Crystal, or Mt. Baker?

Well I'm new to the board this year so I'll post where I want to go next year:

Berkshire East - small but looks like it has some smokin terrain and it's only 1.5 hrs down the road.

Magic Mountain - gotta go after seeing this years video :-o

Burke - a long shot

Places I've only been to once years ago that need another visit:

Sugarbush
Wildcat

:daffy:

In my mind, northern New England
I hit four new mountains this season: Burke, Okemo, Wachusset and Crotched Mountain.

Of those, only Burke was on my wish list and it did not disappoint. Great mountain made even better by skiing with great AZ'ers (Burkeapalooza II). Okemo was on my second tier wish list and it's a good place to go (especially with a family). Definitely worth a second trip back. I was skiing it in freezing rain in January and would like to hit it sometime when the weather is much better. Wachusset delivered what it promised. It's a good place to go if you need a quick ski fix and you live in Boston. Hope to ski it at night. Crotched Mountain was the surprise. I wasn't expecting much but I had a good ski day there. I visited during the almost snowless Christmas season and was surprised by the number of trails open, the lack of crowds and the cleanliness of the lodge.

I may be hitting Wildcat for the first time this Saturday and, if plans do not go awry, I'm looking forward to it.

Here's my list:

Burke
Magic
Jay
Smuggs
Bolton
Cannon
Bromley

I've been to Jay and Cannon but it was many years ago. I would love to get the cook's tour of Burke from Riverc0il and Trailboss. It sounds like many people on this thread want to try Burke and get the locals' tour.

That sounds like the basis for an AZ outing at Burke. Anyone disagree?

Well I made it to Burke & Magic this year but not to any of the others. I'll have to hit the others next season. I also want to hit Gore & Whiteface next season.

I definitely enjoyed Burke & Magic. 2 of the better mountains in New England IMHO. I will hit them again next season as well.

The only new area (butchering that crappy re-run TV motto - if you haven't skied it, its new to you!) I skied this year was Black. I had hoped to do Jay/Burke/Stowe/Sugarloaf, but simply didn't have the time.

Only new areas I hit this season were Crystal Mountain out by Seattle and Whistler in Brittish Columbia.

My Bronze ASC pass pretty much kept me glued to Killington on the East Coast.

If the new Killington overlords decided to jack up the price for the 2007-2008 season pass I might get to ski at a lot of new places next year.

Only one new, Bretton Woods.

Way too flat, but well taken care of and would have some good tree skiing on the right day...

I've been to all of them. Alpental the most often, and it is fabulous. Note, the upper portion of Alpental isn't open at night, but the night skiing that is open (combined with the curisers at Summit Central--same lift ticket) makes one loathe WaWa. They are just 40 minutes from Safeco field. The upper portion of Alpental has some terrifying terrain on one side and a quirkly, overwhelmingly fun, bowl on the other.

I only ever went to Cyrstal on a powder day (otherwise we would head for Alpental/Snoqualmie and use our pass) so I don't know if its worth the extra drive on a normal day. (Note, normal in washington is very very different from pressed and groomed east coast cement. Even if they call it cascade concrete.)

Crystal is fun, two great bowls, all sorts of backcountry, and the normal runs are good too. Good bar, but there wasn't any lodging back in the day.

Baker is a long drive, but its a pretty drive and the hotels in the nearest town are very affordable. Baker has a great crowd (mostly laid back snowboarders, very very little attitude). It doesn't bother with terrain parks, but it has a natural halfpipe, which you should check out even if you would never consider riding a cut half pipe. The snow is deep, soft, and heavy. The terrain is great, the views are awesome. Go here for at least 2 days.

All three are good mountains.

New places this year were Ski Ward, which I will never return to, and Sunapee. I liked Sunapee, but since I won't have a NH Breakout pass next year, I'll have trouble justifying the price.

Next year I want to hit two of the big four in vermont.

My only new place this year was Sno Mtn, which I enjoyed greatly...best steeps I've seen in Eastern PA, and some fun stuff off the trails. Great dedication to snowmaking as well, I will definitely be back.

[killer info on WA mountains]

Thanks a lot for the info! Sounds like we can't go wrong.

Alpental sounds remarkable for such good terrain so close to a coastal city. We'll be visiting good friends who have moved to Seattle, so I foresee some days when we ski while they're at work, then meet up in town for dinner.

Not major priorities on my list, but wouldn't mind hitting MRG or Whiteface.

With regards to Sugarbush, not much for beginners, but some nice runs for intermediates. Some of my favorite runs have been:

Jester/Snowball/Springfling
Lower Jester
Rim Run
All the intermediate runs off of North Lynx

My list was far more boring than my season. I hit MRG, didn't get to Whiteface, new mountains that werern't on my wish list but happy I got to check out:

Sunday River
Burke
Powder Mountain
Brighton
Pico

My new mountains this year:

Stratton
Stowe
Pico

Next year, I'm looking into hopefully finally getting to Burke after years of trying (and after falling in love with the Snowdon Poma at K, I REALLY can't wait). Also might try Wildcat late season if the spring is good.

This is the wrong place to post this, but um, whatever. How far from the Balsams is Burke? How about Burke and Jay?

I didn't post here before the season, but here are my new mountains:

Sugarbush
Okemo
Solitude, UT
Snowbasin, UT
Deer Valley, UT

not as many eastern mountains as I hoped for but personal stuff got in the way. I'm very happy I made it to Utah again.
