What were bump conditions like this weekend? And for the upcoming weekend too...

nah...at least i was skiing (i'm a marylander)...i could have been at work!

my kids had a great time. my 7.y.o. son, especially, saw great improvement in his confidence and ability by being able to ski 3 straight days. regardless of conditions it was a great way to end our season.

I hate when you can see that shine on bumps. Reflective is a word i've heard used. Makes my teeth rattle just looking at them.

EVERYTHING at Stratton that hadn't been touched by a groomer was "reflective," in a get-out-your-hockey-skates (go Devils!) sort of way.

We stopped at the side of a trail and threw some of the death cookies that were sitting there onto the ice. We thought it would be fun to watch them go downt he first pitch. Well they went down the first pitch, across one of Stratton's patented long flat plateaus, down the next pitch, repeat x 3, until they finally hit the edge of the trail, flew up 6 feet into the air and into the woods, prob at 60 mph. It was scary to watch and think about sliding down that at all. I also saw a snowboarder on the lower mountain fall in the "glades" and slide probably 200 feet into a small fir tree, gaining speed the whole time. My guess was broken collarbone.

It was pretty impressive this weekend that when wind blows, large amount of icicles fall off the trees, and they SLIDE DOWN THROUGH THE WOOD making beautiful chattering sounds. Never seen that before.

Glad to oblige. This is what my daily life is like. Jonesin every day...for bumps. Guess its better than other possible fixes...

Once Belleayre softens up half of the top runs are all bumps and some of the lower. hunter's lower K-27 and upper crossover are good as well. And if Clairs ever softens up...it's my favorite rear end kicker.

I was at Stowe all weekend; not exactly central or southern Vermont, but:

Chin Clip off the gondola was in awesome shape on Saturday morning; the freshies from the storm on Friday were still present. Stowe on Saturday was a mob scene though, so the bumps got scraped down pretty quickly. On Sunday they were a little shiny in the troughs (especially on the steeper bits), and the bumps themselves were "solid", but had enough loose snow on them to make it a fun trail.

Bypass (around Nosedive) had awesome bumps. That trail is so narrow and is avoided by the masses, so the bumps are sah-weet!

National: you need a death-wish to take it from the top; the first four or five bumps are clear. Taking the traverse in from Liftline got you below the worst, although the bumps to the Liftline crossover were still pretty funky with a weird easily breakable crust on them. Every turn would send another pile of crust chunks sliding to the bottom. Once you crossed Liftline the bumps were decent; a little scraped, but not too bad.

Liftline: there are some bumps along the side. Skier's right: bring ice skates. Skier's left: not too bad, but the bump pitches were pretty short.

Goat: didn't ski it, but heard from multiple people that it sucked.

Starr : closed off the top, but taking the traverse in from National got some decently soft bumps, nice lines, etc. I guess it's narrow enough that the wind hadn't scoured it. The bottom pitch (where it runs into Lookout) was rather scraped. :sad:

Hayride: skier's left is bumped pretty much the whole way down. A little scraped, but not too bad.

Gulch : good practice for your ice bump skiing skills is the most pleasant thing I could say about it.

Whirlaway (Spruce side): first 10 bumps were awesome, the rest of it was filled with a bizarre crust that felt like it would give away, but it never did. A good teeth-rattling experience if ever there was one.

Smuggler's (Spruce side): sweet the whole way down. If there were softer sweeter bumps anywhere, I didn't find them.

My wife has given father and son permission to play hookey on thursday and the two options for skiing are Bromley or Mad River Glen.

At Hunter, Crossover, K27 and Claires all softened into beautiful soft bumps after 12 noon on friday, Saturday, Sunday.
