was that 8 hours each way or round trip? you can go pretty far to escape the crappy weather if you are willing to drive that much.

go to sugarloaf-they are so far north and east that they seem immune to this latest winter thaw. it;s exactly 452 miles from my door in NYC which translates to about 7 1/2 hours. their snow report sounds pretty good too.

or you could try sunday river.

whatever, 1 way, round trip, doesnt matter really. I just need an escape to some wintery place. I havent had any "me time" in about a year. for me the best place to clear my head is at the top of a snow capped mountain.

At this point in the year it is still your best bet togo to the hills that have the best sno making. I would head to Snow or Gore. about the same amount of driving and the conditions will be good. I am at gore now and they have 2 ft of snow in peoples back yards

when the weather is variable, i;d suggest you go west! I hear Co and Utah and jackson Hole are getting alot of snow. with the economic downturn, maybe there are deals to be had.

I say go to Utah, you can do a friday to monday trip and guaranteed to get great conditions.

i was pretty shocked at some of the deals here: http://parkcity.ski.com/

4 nights (thurs - mon) in a 1BR w/ loft, including air fare from baltimore and 4-day lifts for 2 adults/2 kids: about $2500! i priced that same trip last year and it was closer to $4000.

however, that's still about 3x what it will cost me to take the family to the poconos...

oh well, if you derive 3x more pleasure it might be worth it!

So guys, whats the good word? Who got what where?

Still havent decided where to go tomorrow. looks like wind might be a factor. some places are predicting 20-30mph winds.

what are your suggestions?

No. VT's got the best conditions. If you're game for distance, Stowe, Smuggs, Jay or Bolton. Probably will be skiing on Packed powder.

I'd vote 2nd place for southern VT or Whiteface. Bromley seems to be the winner in the precip game, Stratton or Mt. Snow.

Nothing in NH excites me right now. ME is too far for a day trip I'm assuming.

Keep you eyes on the wind and have the resort snow phone number loaded in your cell to check on winds. Mid course correction if there are wind holds. Normally, I'd say go to a smaller area if windy, but the conditions wouldn't make it worth the trip for you. I would hope that the winds are dying down by tomorrow. If not, with NW winds, think about Bromley in the S or Bolton in the N.

If you're considering SVT, Stratton Mt. has some real time weather stations on the hill at base mid and summit. Here's mid:
http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KVTBONDV1
The summit wind appears inop.
keep your eye on the winds.

If it was me, I'd be in northern VT tomorrow. But for me it's 3 to 3 1/2 hours, so consider the source.

Ive always wanted to go to jay. its pretty damn far though. but we might leave tonight and find a cheapo motel to crash in for a few hrs. we're on a mission. and honestly, driving is part of the fun... or at least thats what you have to convince yourself if you're from Long (and flat) Island

Right where I want to be
Jay got some freezing rain/sleet yesterday so they said. It was a skating rink last weekend. Smuggs was better but still there wasn't much open. Even after they said the got 9-11 inches Saturday night. More like 4 inches in the woods and nothing on the trails.

Mount Snow reports 10-12" today on top of 2" wet snow yesterday. Over 90% open now. I guess they got lucky and were in a band of lake effect snow.

Killington was really good today. I didn't bottom out very often in the powder after the 5" that greeted me yesterday morning, sleet all day yesterday to cosolidate the base, and another 10" or so on top last night and today.

I'll bet Pico will be really good on Friday.

Hey the Pocono's are in pretty good shape right now. Beat's going up there when they're not. Camelback is 100% open with good coverage on all trails and Winter Storm Warnings flying. I think it's going to be a good weekend.
