I tried snowboarding in 1995. I took a lesson with my step-kids. The instructor upon learning I was a skier said, "Your gonna totally give up skiing". He was wrong.

I've tried boarding twice. The first time you actually wore ski boots with the board, the second was with soft boots. I didn't do so well. I ski much better now than I did then also, don't know if it translates at all. I have one of my son's old boards. I thought about getting some boots and playing around with it. I have a bad shoulder that would not take kindly to impacts. I know you fall a lot learning, I think I'll wait till if/when I get my shoulder worked on.

tried boarding once. at the time i was a 10 day a year kind of skier and the thought of giving up precious days wasn't attractive. plus the 1 time i did try i limped away bruised and battered.

Ski, never boarded and have no interest in it right now.

This is true for me as well. I have tried to get my kids to try boarding, my daughter has and enjoyed it but remains a skier, my son like me has shown no interest. My excuse is that after skiing for 45+ years, I have paid my dues physically and have no interest in banging up my aging body.

Tried snowboarding once and broke my wrist on the "last run". Skied with a cast for a few weeks. Took a decent beating in general that day.

Spent the early part of my life as a skiier, my parents had me on the hill as soon as I could walk. I kept that up till about age 14 or 15. Tried snowboarding and haven't put skis on since.

I love to ski but I am not a good skier in the heavy spring stuff so I like snowboarding then. Don't mind being on my butt all the time when its warmer out. One big problem with snowboarding at my age is the pain!

Did both for a while, but all Snowboarding for the last 5 years. Just more fun and I progressed much faster. I was only skiing for 3 years when I tried snowboarding. I was mostly an advanced intermediate skier at the time so I thought it was a good time to try it. I would ski in the morning and snowboard in the afternoon for several years. Got far better at snowboarding. I also love the boots! I just sold my skis in the fall and used that money to buy a new snowboard! :-D

Well after a few days of having this poll up I'd say that snowboarding is getting a little more popular here on AZ. It will probably be a few more years before it evens out, hopefully this year at the AZ summit I won't feel like I'm the only knuckledragger there. After riding all weekend last year with skiers I think i met one snowboarder. Had a great time regardless I'd just like to see a little more diversity.

^ Actually Ski Magazine just did an article about how the explosive growth of snowboarding seems to have leveled off and that for the first time, more snowboarders are taking up skiing than the other way around (Jan 12 issue if you're interested). Sales data from the last 4 or 5 years seems to confirm that too, as snowboard sales are declining rather than growing.
