So i had kind of hung up the sticks for the season. With a 6 month old at home my wife hasn't appreciated even the time I spent at Wachusett (15 mins away) this year. But all the snow this month has me itching to get one more day in. I've been cleared to head up for a day trip on Saturday. I was thinking about Sugarbush, but I noticed there is a group forming for Killington that day and now Mt Snow (shortest drive) is going to be open. Who's going where this weekend and what do think will be the best option?

If I had the opportunity to ski this weekend, I would ski Sugarbush without a doubt. Feet of powder on Castelrock in April? How do you beat that?

After having just spent the best ski weekend that I can remember in the Mad River Valley, I suggest you go to Sugarbush. The conditions there over the weekend were absolutely incredible, even for mid-season, let alone for April. The conditions at Sugarbush will be way better than at Killington IMHO. The further drive is well worth it. You also will not run into any crowds. I'm not sure you can say the same thing about K-Mart on a weekend day. Did I mention late season pricing now applies so you can get a lift ticket for $46? This one's a no brainer for me.

Other than that, I totlally agree with castlerock. You won't have any fun there this weekend. It will be terrible

you guys are killing me with this. 7 hours round trip for me and i have to be home by 6pm. sugarbush is gonna be sick off the wall crazy but it's just too much driving for what will amount to 5 hours of skiing.

If Saturday doesn't work, do the trip on Sunday. That's when I'll be there because Saturday unfortunately doesn't work well for me this weekend either. We have to get our ski days in whenever we can this time of year. It will be worth the drive time, Pat. I can assure you of that!

I know it would be worth it but getting home by 6 just isn’t going to happen coming from sugarbush. Sunday is my only day and I can realistically only go as far as killington. Unless I want to risk a divorce.

Wa-loaf, if you can do the drive these guys are obviously right. Killington was amazing in its own right last Friday and I hope for some sort of a repeat this weekend. As long as you stay in the "snowband" I don’t think any area is gonna disappoint you this weekend.

Killing you? No. We're helping you make the right decision. I would suggest you get rolling at 4:30 am. I believe Bravo loads at 8 am on weekends, no? You can bang runs on Twist, Moonshine, Mall and Steins until Heaven's Gate and Castlerock opens. Pack a lunch in a backpack and eat in the CR warming hut. Ski your fool head off until 2:15 and you'll be home by 6 pm no problem. So....that's your plan. Please stick to it and don't let me down....

2knees, allow me to throw another wrench into the works for you. This past Sunday at Killington was remarkable! Snow was great and crowds were non existent. For tomorrow, Weather.com is prediciting 6-10" in Warren and 10-15" in Killington.

Even though Castlerock(i wonder where he skis?) thinks it's a bad idea and this is my last go of it this year I'll make the push to SB. I'll post in the trip section if anyone wants to hook up then.

Would I be crazy to attempt Roxbury pass the day after a snowstorm? With front wheel drive? No snow tires...

The ruts will be the problem, not the snow. It is warm enough down low to make it a slippery mudfest. I'd take a paved route, with that set-up

Is there a better/faster way than 89 to 100b south? Is getting off in Bethel and taking 107 to 100 north any faster?

Thanks

If you are going to get off at exit 3, take 107, to 12 N, to camp brook rd/Bethel Mountain road to get you to 100.

I think it is about the same time as 89 to exit 9.

It is a twistier road however and if the weather is bad, you'll do better going up to exit 9. If it is just a mud season issue, exit 3 is more fun.

Both routes are a lot faster than slithering in mud, losing traction completely and waiting for a tow or hitting an icy patch, fish tailing, bashing a guard rail and getting the bumper hooked.

The route over Bethel mtn is paved, great views from the height of land and there are places to eat in Rochester.
