I received this from Whiteface last week. Sorry for the delay in posting it:

Sandy Caligiore said:
This summer, Whiteface crews have been hard at work on the summit to grade the upper slopes. The end result will be an easier snowmaking process with the goal of opening the top earlier in the season. Of course, this is all contingent on cooperative weather.

"Cooperative" and "Weather" should never be used in the same sentence when describing Whiteface.

I am yet to ski "the slides" at Whiteface.
I'd like to get out there at some point this season, too bad the drive is insane.

Anyone have any good Whiteface pics to share?

Oz, I don’t know how to post pixs, but here are some I found online. I’m going to take lots of pixs this season and learn how to post them here.

I posted the first batch before when we wrer discussing avi danger. Ifound these shots on the internet one day when I was looking for pictures of The Slides. These pictures are nice, but the training is mostly taking place on the bottom where all the Slides (1 - 4)empty into and takes you back out. The shots taken from the runout up give you an idea of the terrain, but don't do them justice. You can only see part.

I know last summer they were blasting up there to smooth out the trail surfaces. It is extremely rocky and steep near the "summit" and it requires a lot of snow to cover the upper reaches of Cloudspin and Skyward. The sooner they can get the upper mountain open the better as it has some of the best stashes on the mountain.

While I don't have any pics of my own, here are links to some great photos taken by Michael Tokyo in April 2002.

There are FOUR distinct slides that converge with lots of stuff inbetween.

In winter '01 there was even more terrain that was skiable because the snowpack was so high. Skiing from the summit (the true summit) was possible. That's about 3600' of vert.
