Most of my skiing last season was done at Mount Snow. I really like the town of West Dover I like the mountain itself. I would get a lot of use out of an ASC pass on Mount Snow alone, let alone Big K, Attitash and the occasional trip to Maine.

I have only been to Mount Snow 3 times, and I have not been back there since March of 1993, so I suppose that spending time there next season would be a good idea. The Port Jeff ferry has alot of ski trips up there during the season, maybe I could go on them even with a season pass.

Now that Haystack has been sold, ASC has a lot less to offer with their pass in that area of Vermont than in previous seasons. On the bright side Magic Mtn in close by, and I would like to ski there 1-2 days next season.

Season Passes

Interesting...I'd heard (from an insside source) that Wachusett would be offering season pass sales this spring.

This is unusual for Wa...they usually wait till Sep and offer Group (five or more) discounts for purchases before mid Oct, with another price break pre Thanksgiving or so.

What I heard was, there would be pricing similar to last year's (which has been stable for three years now) for spring purchases and increases through the fall.

Now I'm wondering how high Wa's prices would have to go to motivate me to buy elsewhere. I like Wa. HTey've been very good to me and my family over the years (very good). True, skiing elsewhere with more vert and more challenge is better skiing...but it's hard (very hard) to beat the value and proximity.

I did a quick check of places I'd consider (or programs)...quite a range! Okemo's season pass with access to Stratton and Sunapee and someplace out west I'll never goet to is $1350. Wildcat's season pass is $499 now...$699 later. ASC's passes range from $400 to $750 (apparently if it's your first time buying an ASC pass...they don't care how early you buy it).

I'm hoping Wa remains viable. These other options would cramp my ski-visit count. :<

I think it does matter when you buy the ASC bronze. May 7th is cut off date. Last year it went up in 2 increments then was not available. I read something on this on the K board... Rumors were the price will go up or disappear quickly. The thread was started before passes went on sale. Sounds like Wa Wa is a great choice for you cause of the location. I'm trying to get a few of us to go to the May 21 clean up day there. www.wachusett.com/festivals/cleanup

Just verified...I can't make it onthe 21st. I'd put a sad face here, except it's sort of silly to be sad about missing a great day @ Wa...to see #2 son graduate from WPI!!

He was looking forward to going back to the cleanup day this year as well.

Ah well...we'll have to link up next year on the slopes I guess.

Enjoy your day on the hill. Hope the weather is good for you. If they give you a choice...opt for the summit trails (walk up one and down another. Smith-Walton is the steepest, Conifer is the least steep).

stop buying the ASC passes, we wont them to go bankrupt. Maybe with all this money the are getting now this will translate into more snowmaking and running lifts in the spring  ya ok  Since so many people are buying them we should have a poll saying if ur buying one and which one, maybe another post i dunno

I have to laugh, my orginal post said this will probably end up being a poll. I was trying to find out who was taking advantage of the savings with early season purchases. The thread has expanded a bit. The merits of which pass and which mountain have come into the thread and yes partly by me. If you want to start a poll or thread go ahead. (Not sarcastic) I'll try to ring this back into my original idea. ( Valid points here all around.)

I have to wonder if ASC is really making alot of money with these passes, certainly it gives them an influx of cash in the short run, but what about over the length of the season as a whole???

Regarding ASC going bankrupt, if that were to happen I fear for my beloved Sugarloaf big time, as it is a perennial money loser. SKII Corp (previous owners) bought the mountain as a tax shelter.

The management at Killington is taking a turn torwards pure profit only IMO. During my visit there on April 9-10th several incidents during my visit really bothered me:

1) No syrup in any of the soda that they sold at the Rams Head base lodge (okay minor).

2) When I stopped for food with my son at the Snowshed base lodge at 1:30pm on saturday NO hot food of any kind available. If you are going to run a mountain and charge $67 for a lift ticket, have services available for your customers.

3) Ski school insistance that my son had to take a full day group lesson on sunday ($99)due to the time of year, when the brochure clearly states that they have half day lessons available ALL season.

4) When I wanted to change into my ski boots in the Rams Head base lodge on sunday, I was told to move out of where I started to change from because they were starting to CLOSE the lodge down for the season.
Advice to management at Killington, do that when customers are NOT there, and after the end of the season at that particular area.

5) Great grooming on saturday, nearly non existent grooming on sunday. This is important when skiing with young children.

Sorry for the ravings, but this has to be taken into account when commiting to spending $350 on a season pass.

With the on-going division of "Real Estate Operations from Mountain Operations" it appears that ASC is preparing themselves for the aforementioned "Bankruptcy"....I sense that they want the lodging units and real estate...possibly load the mountain operations with their overall debt and file for CHAPTER 11...screwing the mountain operation contractors, venders and employee's...oh and the skiing community as opposed to the once a year guest…

My last rave would be that it is really sad to see Killington's ski season shrink every year especially for someone who has skied it over a full 8 month ski season.

Will they be the last to close this year??? I hope so, just for the sake of one of the few remaining Killington traditions.

i actually hope they lose this year, people need to see how much ASC has fallen. I dont think they can lose though, it would look so bad.

I bought passes for Catamount for next year for the entire family - 2 adult, 1 junior and 2 kids. The prices were great (Adults $199, Juniors (7-13) $179 and kids (6 and under) $69). Makes it almost affordable for the whole family to go!

Great deal.
Getting the family out together is great. Hopefully we can do a family ski trip next winter as a Alpine Zone group.

I checked their website after seeing the prices you paid for passes.

Looks like a nice place for families! SOme challenge, some development terrain...close to MA/NY Border? Night skiing!

Congrats! Tastey pick at a great price.

I didn''t see anything about their vert (or lack thereof?)...but if it's close to 1000', it would be similar to what I get @ Wachusett in MA. But even if it were much less than 1000'...you are on snow with lift service and available night skiing. Great value.

I don't like being tied down to one place, so I'll be getting some SkiNH passes when they're available. My son turns 13 this year, so it will be more worthwhile to use the passes for his lift tickets.

I also have some $$ left on a Crotched SnoCard that I have to spend next season. I'm hoping that they will be able to open up earlier than most other places... :)

After a long and hard thought process, actually 5 minutes after I saw the ad for the Bronze ASC pass and today being the last day, I went online and purchased one a few minutes ago.

I have purchased a Butternut pass for the past 5 or 6 seasons and an Orford pass last year. I love the Berks as it is just about an hour away from me so my next purchase is going to be either a Catamount or Butternut pass.

It looks like I may make less trips this winter to the NEK and Canada next winter. My family will be a little ripped.

Wachusett has posted their pricing

They have opted to follow the ASC look...BRONZE/SILVER/GOLD.

No deadlines yet.

According to my contact...they wanted to show folks that were in the mood to buy...what the pricing would look like. Apparently sales are pretty good! This takes some pressure off the office help (that builds up in the fall).

The "Bronze" pass is listed @ $199. THis is the pass I've bought for five years. 7-nights per week front to back (4PM to 10PM) and weekdays (non-holiday/non-vaca). Tough to ignore for me.

The Silver pass gets you weekends pre-christmas and post Feb vaca.

The Gold is a full-on season pass (no blackout dates).

I'll wait till the fall and obtain my pass via the Group Sales deal. Groups (of five or more) get a bit of a discount ($10 - $20 per pass). The deadlines on these prices are (normally) mid Oct and again in late Nov.
