I'm not sure anyone will try tonight (although Bretton Woods should with the snow forecast for tomorrow), but I'm sure as hell some areas will tomorrow night. Thursday and Friday will be cold enough for around-the-clock snowmaking at the higher mountains (IE: Killington, Sugarbush) and they could shoot for Saturday openings. It's supposed to be warm Saturday-Monday, but right back down towards the middle of next week.

Okemo's aiming for 11/18 now so no snowmaking from them this week, I'd imagine.

Alright ... so if I plan to go skiing this weekend ... what's my best shot?
Killington. I'm not feeling real good about it, but maybe? This forecast is certainly looking better. A repeat from two weeks ago would be nice. Anyway, the boys at K are playing wait and see. The warm-up over the weekend and next week make it a tough call. They want to open and stay open.

Look at it this way, even Vail and Alta won't be open this weekend. Why would we expect to be skiing? Oh, right, mother nature gave us a little taste of what's to come this winter.

I'm just laying back and thinking of my last two weekends last season. I was the last guy off the hill on the last day at Mt. Snow (my buddy bought it on the North Side and had to be carted out by sled on our second to last run). Now how much does that suck? The good news was, she turned out to be o.k., just a tweaked knee, and I got to ski down with some whacky lifties from Australia. 8) Right up until my friend got waxed, it was the most perfect day I have ever seen. And once she was safely in the sled, it got pretty good real fast.

The following weekend was one you definitely write home about. Bluebird skies at Killington with perfect bumps all day long. I can still feel them. :D

Assuming we start skiing in earnest at the end of November, that's five (count 'em, five) fabulous months of bashing bumps and lifting brews. I'm fired up for the season, folks! :D

By the way, do we have any serious Mad River skiers around here? (Like I won't get doused with resonses) What has happened to the single chair this season, if anything?

I believe the single chair is being refurbished next season. Nothing happened to it this year. They did vote on the issue though.

Assuming they could blow snow 24 hours a day, how long would it take to make a trail skiable? What do they do, an inch an hour, or what?

Missed this. Temps and humidity are the key. I think 72 hours of good snow making weather is usually in the ball park to open terrain.

Don't take it personal - I just wanted to take the opportunity to b.tch some more and quote Lord Vader. Thats all.

I think the real quote is "I find your lack of faith disturbing."
