By the way, do we have any serious Mad River skiers around here? (Like I won't get doused with resonses) What has happened to the single chair this season, if anything?
I believe the single chair is being refurbished next season. Nothing happened to it this year. They did vote on the issue though.

We had pretty long thread on this last spring; MRG's Single Chair Set for Renovations (?). I believe the current schedule is to start work on the single chair refurb this summer to have it ready for next season. This year will be the last year on the original single...

Here's a short press release on the subject from MRG.com: http://www.madriverglen.com/press/Media_Kit_04/?Page=single.html

okay, i will be the first to admit that i was wrong. i figured if any one would go for it, it was going to be kmart and i automatically ruled them out and figured no one else would possibly give it a go. now the question remains is this for real or just testing the system?

regardless, temps up here have been cold all day in the valley. it is currently sleeting outside so should be a cold night up on the mountains. last i heard, necn was only calling for 6" so if they upgraded to 1' something changed drastically in the forecast during the last 24 hours. i will check that out right away. with cold temps tonight and snow in the forecast, i am revising my prediction slightly. i still don't think any one is going to open this weekend, but base building seems like it may commence at some areas today and tonight. hopefully someplace will surprise me this weekend. i still don't think last night's freeze was enough to completely freeze the ground and warmer temps will melt much of the snow making away. ski areas planning to open this weekend are taking a gamble if they do, and cheers to anyone that goes for it.

Ouch, the sleeping giant is caught again. 3 resorts have already beaten Killington to the snowmaking (it kills me that Okemo can do it, but they can't). Killington is slacking this year. If they would've taken every oppurtunity to make snow, they'd be open this weekend.

To bad. They get a free pass from me for opening in Oct. I so wish I made it.
I hope the MTS that made snow get the benefit our of it.
I'll be lost again this weekend.

No, this statement is not true.

In order of who opened/made snow to open:

  • Wildcat (two weeks ago--opened)
Killington (they DID open and they did make SOME snow in order to do so).
    Sugarbush--blew mice last night
    Bretton Woods--Blowing
    Okemo--Blowing

I'm not counting Wa-Wa because the snowmaking was for a small park and not for lift-serviced skiing or riding.

So yes, ONE resort did beat K-mart, but not three.

Get a small base down before the snow hits and make snow again thurs. NECN said 1 foot plus in NH and maine mountains. Hope on 2 fronts.
just watched necn and tim kelly is only calling for 5-10" at higher elevations specifically mentioning mansfield, washington, and katahdin. kelly also specifically called probably no snow in the valleys. so again we have an upper elevation storm tracking from the greens through the presis and on into mansfield. i wonder if he was calling for that snow based on up slope or if that is not countin any upslope activities? looked like a switch back over to rain regardless.

I was mainly talking about this week. I know Killington was technically the first to make snow. When I said again, I meant this go around.

just to clarify, because that last quote had me slightly confused, the cat never blew snow.

i think i'd like to strike the phrase "blow the mice out" from skiers vocab. i am getting sick of seeing it. not to mention the area it is atributed to creating the saying. any body with me on this one? :D

Here's what I meant:

Yes, Killington was the first area to make snow this season. However they were beaten to opening by Wildcat, which was the 1st time they were beaten.

Now, for the normal opening, their snowmaking has been beaten by 4 resorts, noted by the "again" in my 2nd to last post.
