We'd intended to "follow the conditions" and drive somewhere on Friday, return on Sunday. Given the likely conditions, I think we'll put it off till conditions and terrain options look a bit more promising. Too many miles and too much money to chase after the white ribbon of death. I have increasingly been thinking of ways to work a quick trip west, but...

I'm leaning towards Hunter. Jim/Jessica/Doug - if they get fired up this weekend and have some snowmaking temps throughout next week, at least at night, what terrain/vert can be expected for the following Saturday? Maybe a run or two down the front?

Here's some "speculation."

Things that will probably be open (things that are covered first) -- Hellgate, Belt Parkway, Kennedy + Eisenhower and other connecting bottom slopes OTHER THAN Racer's Edge, which is one of the last. The west side will obviously not be worked on initially (too bad...Way Out is my favorite run!), but the terrain park will probably be operational *as soon as it can be* because we have a Burton Super Clinic that needs to use it. Jimmy Heuga is iffy...the shade on the slope makes it difficult to keep the terrain smooth so early in the season. That's all I'm going to say at this point...again, it depends on the weather.

I think the best we can hope for will be HBK...Hellgate to Broadway to Kennedy. If they go beyond those runs, it will be to open the Belt which I will not be skiing on anyway.

Nice. Thanks guys. What's the typical grooming policy that time of year? Will the blacks (Hellgate and Ike) be left pretty much alone?

You guys know how Hellgate is...nice and smooth until noon, an icy nightmare afterwards. They'll do the best they can, but who knows. It could be ice, slush, or any number of other not-so-hot conditions if the weather is warm. You're right about HBK being the first though, and that's the standard. I just heard that F-Lift and the Quad are prepped and ready, so chances are if we do open, those two lifts will be running. You guys are all getting too much info already, I am shutting up for today!

Yeah, wifey and I were going to do the same thing, now we're just going to "Follow the Bullwheel" and go wherever there are turns to be had.
