Widespread Snowmaking?

So what is the word from places other than SR and Killington? I just looked at the 15 day for various towns and states in regards to weather and it looks like Tonight through the next 15 days that many in the central and northern parts of NE will have a prolonged stretch of nightime snowmaking temps. Granted none of the weather reports I was checking out took into effect the elevation and humidity of these places.

On a related note, is it typical for places that don't care about first to open to start making snow now in preperations for Turkeyday?

I'm sure a few places outside of Killington and Sunday River will be looking to open on the weekend of the 20th to put themselves on the radar for Thanksgiving weekend skiers. Okemo, Mt. Snow, Stratton, Bretton Woods, Loon to name some

Yep. I would guess Bell probably will start. Hunter maybe? Looks too warm at Jiminy still.

Seems a little early for Hunter, although if they think it'll stay until till the week of Thanksgiving that they traditionally want to be open if at all possible for, they might.

I think a lot of guns will get going this weekend. Not sure when they will start at Sundown in CT, but they posted that the hoses are getting rolled out! So, they are even looking for the opportunity.

Killington will probably wait another week after it all melted out!!!:fangun:

That's what I was afraid of early last week--while it looked ok for summit guns, I was worried it wouldn't hang around with this week's warmup. N NE looks ok for a while with the next possible warm up still a ways out--they may be able to keep this round. We'll see.

I got a reply from hunter on facebook, that they hope to open the weekend before Thanksgiving.

There is a site called snowathome.com and you can type in a zip code and get the 5 day snowmaking forecast. I think it also takes into account the humidity. I put in highmount, ny, for belleayre mountain. think snow:fangun:

Thanks. That's an interesting tool. If you look at last year's northeast historical data, you see the most snowmaking days in december, then it tapers off from there, never increasing.

Mount snow probably will.

Here's two of their posts from twitter :

"Some natural snow today light but tis the season for snowmaking... Updates all week long as soon as Mountain Ops gives us the go!" about 1 hour ago via TweetDeck

"Happy Halloween to all our freakish friends!! We're hoping some frozen treats fall from the sky or our fan guns real soon!! Maybe tonight?!" about 12 hours ago via web

:fangun::spin:

I am hoping Belleayre will, since it is my home mountain. They are shooting for November 13th as opening day, so it would make sense

Sugarbush starts tomorrow night:

The countdown begins… only 19 days until our projected opening, and both Mother Nature and our Sugarbush team are getting ready.
We’ve already seen our first snow on October 16th, with over two feet falling at our summit. While that was quick to melt, the transition towards winter is prevalent, and today we continue to see flurries accumulating across the mountain.
Snowmakers are preparing to turn snow guns on tomorrow night (Tuesday, November 2nd), weather permitting. And opening day at Lincoln Peak is slated for Saturday, November 20th.
