Will The Possible Mt. St. Helens Eruption Effect Our Winter?

Since I wasn't alive in 1980, how did it affect that winter and how do you think it will be this winter based on current forecasts and such? Thanks for the info.

Winter 1980-81 was bitter fkg cold, I can tell you from first-person experience. Don't recall snowfall totals nor do I specifically recall whether the eruption had anything to do with it, but I do remember it being mighty damn cold for a long time that season. I also recall lots of unusually colorful sunsets all winter and spring that were attributed to the volcano.

That was the winter I was living in Lake George, NY and had to go outside one night just to check it out cuz the thermometer said -42*F and I could not believe it was accurate. So outside I go, big parka and all, had a quick walkaround, and it hurt my lungs to breathe. Still don't know whether the thermometer was reading right that night but if it was, that was the coldest temp I ever saw.
