I was at breck last week on the gondola that takes you to the base, and one of the locals pointed out to me between peak 7 and peak 8 a tree that only 2 days earlier was knocked onto the haul rope due to the wind being so strong.

It was closed for the rest of the day, inspected, and opened the next day

I've skied Killington on some windy days, but does it ever get so bad the mountain completely shuts down?

I've seen that happen at Stowe several times over the years. Most of the time, they can at least run the triple and a lift or two over on Spruce, but every so often it's so bad they can't open anything at all. Wildcat this also happens. Sugarloaf has probably double digit days (perhaps 20+) every year where the only lifts running are the Double Runners and the Bateau T-Bar. I've also seen it where the only lift running is the Bateau and the mountain has to give people rides on Snowcats up to the lift.

My vote went to Sugarloaf because of the sheer abundance of wind holds. Hell we've had them 4 out of the 5 AZ summits there.

Not really. The Snowden Quad will pretty much always spin, and usually something on Snowshed will run, and the Northbrook Quad will run as well. But the rest of the place can/will shut down on the worst days.

But they're not that common in my experience at Killington. Hunter is far worse than Killington, for that matter.

Whiteface for the win. Always seems to be an upslope wind that just scours the trail of anything but ice.
