Windows and DST

Has anybody experienced the time changing by itself while using Windows XP? This computer has the windows automatic updates and I even went to Microsoft's site to install any patches they may have been needed. All was fine, I updated the Outlook express since I use calender. I did this a week before the DST took place.

Out of 5 computers that I made sure would work for the DST, one is giving me a problem. The time was fine when I came into work on Monday after DST, but once a week at any given moment I notice that my Outlook alerts do not seem to be working and then I look at the clock and I see it is off by 1 hour.

Anybody else have an issue like this & how did you fix it?

I had issues with Outlook Calendar at work win WinXP. Funny how DST this year caused more issues than Y2K. Go Microsoft, woo!

I think there was a Windows Update that came out to deal with the DST issue...

But it is true.. This DST change cause a s-load more issues then Y2K ever did as far as the stuff that I deal with from day to day...

Oddly enough I haven't had any issues on either of my computers running XP...

My other DST flaw is with my XM Skyfi2 radio. I purchased, from what I am told is a pre-Canada model which means it lacks the Atlantic Time Zone in the clock settings. I was told to go to the settings via the menu on the unit and turn off the Daylight Savings time, which I did and then change my time zone to Atlantic. Well I have a pre-Canada model which lacks the feature, so it looks like I will have to endure a 1 hour difference until the next time change. XM sends the time to the radio unit, so there is no way to adjust the time. Technology, you got to love it!

My Sirius radio handled the change just fine. I didn't have to fiddle with settings or anything..

Our IP phones at work took a beating...
And my Tivo missed a show... (24)!!!! Which I blame on DST...

I noticed one of PC's did not take to the new DST settings. Even after I manually changed it, it would still go back an hour after a couple of minutes. I think the cause was it was synching with an internet time server (datetime.windows.com or something like that). I turned that off and it appears to be OK. My laptop, which I'm on now, doesn't even have an option to use a time server.

Microsoft really botched this one. I'm really surprised it didn't get more press than it did, at least in the mainstream press. They had opened a live chat room just for this issue because there so many different problems. They basically let the customers help each other and solve their own problems. Patches were released almost daily.

My brother said they noticed tons of problems with BlackBerry and the calendars not synching up, appointments moving, growing, shrinking, disappearing. Just a nightmare. My company almost did nothing about this. Our systems and network guys did nothing for this until I did some research based on an e-mail sent to us from BMC. That was in late January. We basically had 3-4 weeks to research, test and implement. Luckily I wasn't involved with the apps that caused all the problems.

Times can be set by domain servers - so when you log onto the domain it changes the time to the time on the server..

Chances are it's less Bill Gates fault then your IT guy not being prepared for the change.. Our LINUX and UNIX servers took more of a beating then any of our Windows stuff...

My Palm Treo took a beating.. I was already in a different timezone(JacksonHole) during DST so my claendar is a mess... But i blame myself... Think it was something I did..

maybe, maybe not. One of our Systems folks reported a succession of MS patches that just flat out failed. I don't know exactly what the problem was or for which apps, I just know she said they all failed.

Our UNIX stuff ended up being the most stable. We only have 4 or 5 Solaris boxes and they're not hosting anything too complicated. Most apps will pull times from the O/S anyway, so if that's OK, the apps are OK. I do know there was a big deal with Sun's JDK. Don't know details, but I know a couple of guys struggled with that one, too.

It will be interesting to see if anything rears its ugly head come October 28 or November 4......
