depends on on what you're looking for ... we love the backside of winter park-mary jane. have never skied the winter park. mary jane is a ski area unto itself (it is part of the winter park complex). has it's own base area. they do little grooming and it's pretty much wall-to-wall steep bumps. has almost an old school mrg type feel. one high speed quad, a triple and a couple old doubles. we find we can ski the trees between virtually every run. you also have access to parsenn bowl. so if that's your schtick then mj is the place. my uninitiated take on the winter park side is that it's an everyman type place, lots of hsq's and crowds. i'm sure there's some good skiing there also but mj is soooo good we just ski there.

same lift tic.
MJ is bump Heaven.
The WP part is like your typical Col. resort. Mary Jane is what makes WP special. MJ is hard core bumpville. MJ should not be missed if thats your cup of tea. Its that good.
That being said, If I were going to CO and not into skiing bumps all day, I wouldnt even consider WP for more then a day. I'd rather go to Steamboat, Copper, or Vail.

I did a day there last season for the first time and only did MJ. I really liked it alot for the reasons skiadikt said.

yeah mj is definitely for bumps & trees. i think of the other 3 as primarily intermediate areas. steamboat has very little scary stuff but probably the best trees you'll find anywhere. you'll find some steeps at both copper & vail. i'd take vail over copper. the bowls are better and blue sky basin at vail is a fantastic undeveloped type area. some steeps and lots of trees. the highline area rocks and ppl is a premier bump run. the sleeper I-70 area is beaver creek. some of the longest steepest bump runs you'll find anywhere and the upper crust crowd that skis there doesn't ski any of the tough stuff so the pow lasts for days.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Everyone knows that BC is the Stratton of the west...lots of boring intermediate stuff.

Don't listen to skiadikt...not worth going there.

I've heard that from several people, When I do Summit County and surrounding areas it's usually a 5 or 6 ski day trip. So far I haven't been willing to give up some of the other mountains to do a day at BC. Next time out I'm going to hit it.

didn't you hear what jim said about a lot of boring intermediate stuff ...
