You mean Lindsey winning a gold medal ;) :flag:

I could see her doing this quite easily today, as when she woke(wakes) up this AM, I'm betting that it will feel like the weight of the world is off her shoulders after winning yesterday ;)

Also, one of her bigger threats, Anja Paerson of Sweden, I'd bet is quite sore this AM after that mega crash she took yesterday  It will be interesting to see if Maria Reisch of Germany can shake off what looked to be a bit of a mentally iffy run yesterday, if so, she will be a threat to win.

What about Mancuso?

I'm a little haunted by Vonn's shin injury. From the pressure she put on it yesterday, and the fact that nobody has commented on it, makes me worry a little.

How is the in SL? Does she have any podiums in WC at all? (I guess I could look it up on FIS myself)

Yes, she does have about 20 podiums in Slalom, but her performance has been very mixed.
SG is much stronger in the past two years, in fact, extremely strong (1, 2 or 3) since Jan 09
SC has 8 podiums,

It's probably not her style, but I could see letting off a little now that she's won a medal.

on fis-ski:

2010: 13th in SL
She had a good year on SL last year and ended up 3rd (SL)
Before that no podiums (SL)

According to the story I was reading this morning about her, Buck Hill is famous for cranking out SL skiers, but once she moved to Vail (age 12) she was awestruck by the speed events (also having met Picabo) and really concentrated on those.

On a day to day basis, Vonn is a better slalom skier than Mancuso - Lindsey has actually won a WC slalom race (not just a super combined), whereas Mancuso isn't considered a regular threat in slalom (she's a better GS skier than Lindsey though on most days).

The other factor with the supercombined, especially in it's current format with 1 DH run and 1 slalom run (used to be 1 DH run and 2 slalom runs) is that if you can kill it in the DH, you can build up a pretty good cushion so that an average slalom run can get you a podium, since for what ever reason it seems like the speed specialist have less of a fall off in their slalom ability than the slalom specialists have with their DH ability.

I do think though that BOTH Lindsey and Julia will be racing today with the least amout of mental pressure on them after their results yesterday. Could be another good day for the US women to say the least - a gold/silver finish is probably pushing it, but a US woman on the podium isn't far fetched at all

So far so good! :flag:

Kind of suprised to see that Anja Paerson is going to start today after that crash yesterday - she's one tough Swedish cookie!

Vonn in the SC slalom is going to be a do or die performance.

from NBC:

"Vonn has 7 podium finishes in supercombined, 3 of them are victories. And if she can win a second gold medal here today, she will be in even more elite company. Only one woman racer has won two gold medals in a row - Germany’s most successful racer ever, Katja Seizinger won the downhill and the combined in Nagano in 98."

You know what I'll be doing at 6:30 tonight....

Oops. I had the time set wrong!

Interesting read:

American skiers have only one Olympic medal in women's combined history, a silver by Gretchen Fraser at the 1948 St. Moritz Games. I

its strange how they had combined very early on, then it disappeared for many years
