Looks like my little ski area friend a mile away is going to get a very rare blasting of snow.....

Nice!

Max has been blowing a nice base of snow on Yellow Jacket and Ledges all week....if it is ever epic at the goo tomorrow will be the day!

Might have to dust off the Explosivs!!!:snow:

Is it steep enough there to get any momentum in 18 inches of pow?

That is what I am wondering about. I would give that a go tomorrow morning if it had any decent pitch. Gotta wonder the same about Blue Hills. Never skied south of the Pike but wouldn't be opposed if there is enough pitch for over a foot of pow!

Hope there aren't power outages cause we live right up the road from the mighty Goo. We've got some things going on tomorrow but might have to go check it out for a couple of hours. Let us know if you're going, Hrstrat. Not much vertical and not very steep but it's a place where lots of local kids have learned to ski. For the location they really do a terrific job with snowmaking.

I've never been to Yawgoo Valley but I know I had a blast skiing the 270' vertical of Campgaw in Jersey when it was puking snow one day a few years ago. I think any place can be great on a pow day.

Hey neighbor! How ya been? I thought about golfing today(RH was open!) but had too much going on to even waste 1 hour today.

I'd like to take a few spins at Yawgoo if possible but prodigal son #1 is coming home tonight from AZ so I might be jammed up.....a night after work early next week will probably work better. I forgot to remind him to bring his boots...hope he remembered.....I have his 2 spare pairs of Tecnicas at Anderson's on consignment, might have to pull a pair out.

I gotta find those fat Volkls if I go...they are stuffed in the back of a closet here somewhere LOL!!!

I know some secret lines in between the trails and over by TNT that are very pow friendly as you might expect:wink:

Surprising BTW I didn't learn at Yawgoo, most of my kiddie ski days were spent at Pine Top.

Blue Hills definitely has the pitch. Too bad it's so short, total of about 300 some feet vertical, so if your turns are shallow (to preserve speed, assuming ankle deep powder), you probably have just enough vertical to pop 10 turns and you're down. That's on the main slope which has the best pitch.

They have been making snow,so there is a base already.

I skied Yawgoo once back in the early 90's when about a foot of semi-thick powder fell (my parent's were living about 10 miles away at the time and I was home from college on X-mas break).

Freshies were a bit of an effort as Yawgoo's might vert comes mostly from a short (maybe 4 turns max) pitch and then the rest being basically flats. After trail was broken across the flats, it was a bit more manageable, but it was IMHO more of a aerobic workout than a downhill adventure.

Tommorrow though, go for it!!! Afterall how often can one say they skied RI in a BLIZZARD!! :)

Unfortunately, I think Max is gonna have to groom most of the hill to make is usable.

Might be a few hours before anyone around here is going anywhere....I have a long driveway.

...trying to get my door open at the moment so I can let the dog out.......

Down there getting a nice deep base for free is probably more valuable than a powder day.

As expected it was perfect packed powder conditions......18 inches is a must groom at Yawgoo as stated by others in this thread.....

Ski'd about an hour and a half....good first time with skis on.

Christmas vacation should be nice this year for my home hill....good for them!

Hello Alpine Zone. Found this site a few months ago, finally registered now that my season has officially started.

Only a half hour away i figured it was worth the trip to check out yawgoo after it got the goods.
While most of the trails were groomed, and this is definitely necessary due to the lack of pitch at the area, there were some untouched trails that had steep sections. It was a pain getting to in and out from the sections, but it was sweet as it was by far the deepest snow i have skied.
I enjoyed my first trip of the year, but can't see myself ever going back there again.

Glad to hear you went. We didn't get the driveway opened up till after 3:00 and didn't make it down. Nice light snow. This should really help Yawgoo get set up for the Christmas school vacation.
