fuck me for considering tremblant AGAIN this weekend when i had my hearts set on saddleback and sugarloaf AGAIN.
I'm surprised you don't send it out west more for long weekends ( or just move out there as a youngish single guy) your like 30 minutes from Newark Airport or less right? maybe your work isn't flexible like that. 1/2 the skiing but twice the quality.

i'm 37 with a partner who doesn't ski and we both have legitimate careers based in new york city. my family and all my friends are here too. and i love the cultural opportunities that come with living in NYC. those wouldn't be matched even in Denver or seattle.

i can afford to drive 300 miles and stay in a super8 every weekend. i can't afford to fly + rent car + hotel constantly and it would be way too rushed to go for weekends. and i cant constantly be taking Mondays and Fridays off of work.

i used to go out west 2-3 times a season. i would do a long 8-9 day week around xmas, a long weekend around mlk, and a week around presidents day.

my girlfriends bday is 12/21 and we celebrate xmas with her family, so the xmas opportunity is now really only 26th-31 (i get back to spend nye with her). that's too rushed and too expensive to go west at peak holiday.

for the past few years i have adjusted by going out west for one 2week+ chunk in late feb. consolidating all the costs into one big western trip each year where i ski 10-15 days.

Best part of the weekend was the youngest finally beginning her race training. Long time coming, the wife and I actually got an hour alone in the bar.View attachment 55892
That's amazing that you already have 41 days. I'm at zero, had personal and medical issues this winter, but should be good to go in a couple weeks. Plan to do my annual winter migrationn to UT again. Dreaming of lots of good spring ski days out there. Great job with the daughter. If your kids fall in love with skiing you're golden forever!

Got lucky with some fresh snow, last year was the opposite. Love Brundage, perfect mountain for me. Easy well spaced trees boundary too boundary without too much stuff to get in over your head. Also great views.

Lapped the summit chair most of the day. Awesome snow and no people. Definitely trickier terrain than Brundage (except Hidden Valley).

Good ski day made even better because my oldest son David and youngest son James joined in the fun. Lots of snowmaking going on and plenty of snow put down since my last visit. Belle is in good shape for yet another warm/wet weather cycle. Run of the day was Winnisook featuring well skied in and still round bump lines. Skipped today with the snow/rain will return Sat.

Hit lots of different lines through Hidden Valley. Basically untracked all day. Top of the mountain was zero vis.
Ran into a guy I met yesterday at Tamarack and we got into some fun stuff.

Finally have a couple days off this weekend after working every day since Jan 2nd, but decided to sit this weekend out to rest and not deal with the mostly crap conditions. Looking ahead to finally getting out next weekend and I feel like I have two options for decent snow. One is to follow in Kusty's tracks up to Tremblant as they seem to have by far the best conditions in the east. I've never been there before (only place I've skied in Quebec is Orford) but looks like they have some decent natural terrain and just need to stay away from the shitshow village (kind of like Stratton lol). Plus the Bruins are in Montreal next Tuesday which would make for a fun 3 day weekend. The other option looks to be Maine...Saddleback has quite a bit of natural and glades still open after this week's storm, so the base is there and if this week's storm pans out decently, then hopefully things should be in shape up there. Could get my 2 Saddleback Indy days and pop into SR or SL for a day.

Belle is making snow whenever possible all over the ridge. Everything is in good shape. Good bumps on Belleayre Run, Tongora and Winnisook. Some icy spots but a lot of good snow.

Just very bored with the same trails over and over. Gonna have to venture up to VT soon for a change of pace. We need a few good snowstorms here in the east.

Praying to Ullr.

17) 01/14/23 - Tremblant, QC - really glad I chose to make the drive. excellent tree skiing run after run. def Tremblant crowded tho. skied bell to bell but only managed 25k. still a great ski dat

18) 01/15/23 - Tremblant, QC - ikon early ups at 730 made for an epic sunrise and a few hot groomer laps before anyone showed up. much less crowded today, often waiting only a couple of chairs to ride singles. got after it, skied basically every glade and natural trail. 30k skied and wrapped by 2 pm to have time to drive back to vt

19) 01/16/23 - Sugarbush, VT - very impressed with the snowmaking output. Made me feel good about my upcoming family trip this weekend. It will look white and there will be routes for the people. I just want everyone to have a good time, enjoy the mountain and the mad river valley, and say “you were right this is all more enjoyable than killington”. skied under 3 hours but logged 20k vert. Five laps on steins under the guns with the serious dry gun pow

Our passes were blacked out last weekend and I didn't buy day passes early enough. So we went to platty sunday. Back to Belle this weekend. Hope it survives the rain. Nice to hear they left some bumps up. Suppose they might go if things get iced over.

Some forecasts have 8" sunday night...
