So funny---but sad that it is true!

When I go skiing, I want to detach myself from technology and just be outdoors!!! I have to be on a computer all the rest of my life for schoolwork!! Plus the people that take pictures just to post to facebook are usually teenage girls who just want to prove that the are "having fun" (but thats a discussion for another thread). The real skiers are people that take skiing as a hobby--something you don't want to end, rather than just a pastime with the main outing being shopping and eating!

For me, I don't care about the food or the shopping. As long as they have a decent beef chili in the Cafe i'm ok.

And shopping gets in the way of me getting to the lift--literally. I want to park my car, and get on a main lift--not a transport (breck-connect gondola) or anything of the sort!

As for heated gondolas--I have like 50 layers of clothes on! Now I am sweating to death in a steam-filled gondola with a bunch of hipsters who don't want to talk to me but just post things on facebook!!

Thank god for places like MRG.

+1

I love Colorado, but one of the things I hate about it such it is since so many resorts are destination resorts, it interferes with skiing.

When I ski Vail, I have to park in a $35 garage (I think that price is right, there is free parking but it's limited), and walk through the entire ski village, takes 10 minutes with boots on. There's no way around it, it's like when you go to Vegas and you wanna go to your room you have to walk through the casino.

When I go to Copper, I have to take a bus from the parking lot to the resort

When I ski Winter Park, I have to take the cabriolet from the parking lot then walk like 10 minutes through the ski village. Ridiculous

The only major resort where I don't have to do any of that is Keystone.

I personally enjoy resorts that have minimal to no Apres Ski (like Jay Peak, even though they are trying to change that). I am passionate about skiing, it isn't just a hobby but a lifestyle for me, I don't want a 5 star experience, I just want to ski from first chair to last chair and then get something good, cheap, but filling for dinner. Call me old fashioned.

I remember one day skiing K in a freezing drizzle. Everything was fine because it just froze on the outside of our clothing. Instead of riding the chairs, which we had been doing, we decided to hop on the gondola for a run. K used to have heat on the gondola, it's since been removed. Well everything thawed out on our clothes & we were drenched by the time we reached the top.

I don't care about wi-fi & such since I don't even own a phone or laptop. In fact when I'm away skiing there's no way to get in touch with me except for the land line at the house in VT. I like it this way.

I've seen heated side walks at some New England areas but never a heated garage.

Don't know much about cafeteria food since I usually brown bag it. If the area has a nice bar with some good bar fare I'll grab something.

Usually don't check condition reports posted on screens in some base lodges. Whatever it is it is.

Somehow I seem to get by.

At this point, I'd say Jay has more Apres than most. On mountain, they have a bar, a restaurant, a pizza place, an ice rink, a waterpark, a spa, and a concert series. Jay in no way can be lumped into minimal apres places, it is a full blown resort through and through at this point. At least they can't change their weather...
