Can you provide some context? How does this happen?
I'm not sure it's explainable. lol There probably was at least some context as video existed, but the woman requested it be pulled down.

The "explanation" online is as follows:
According to an eyewitness, the woman attempted to board the gondola late. As the cabin doors closed, she placed her foot in the doorway, causing the doors to clamp onto her ski boot. The gondola continued moving, dragging the woman an estimated 50 feet beyond the loading terminal before the lift was stopped. She was left hanging upside down in the air, supported only by her trapped boot.

As a sidebar, I can confirm those doors are quite strong as I have had a boot momentarily caught in one too as the last person boarding, but I was fully in the cabin and just pulled my leg firmly. Pretty surprised the gripping power is so strong it can maintain the weight of an adult human. But the "unexplainable" part to me is why is she backwards? I'm thinking maybe she tried to abort loading? I'd really love to see the video. lol

EDIT: Alright, I found part of the video, media pulled it but Reddit didn't. They actually had to undo the boot rather than open the doors.

Am I correct the lift was installed this year?

How is there not a safety that stops the lift if a cabin leaves the terminal without doors closed?

It's actually the old one (Red Pine) she got caught up in, which has been there for years, but those cabins are newish, installed summer 2023.

You would think a safety stop would be a thing, but I know it isnt, because there have been several times doors havent closed all the way and there's like a 2 or 3 inch gap and I have to give it a bit of a nudge for it to remember to lock & seal tight. Definitely seems like a safety flaw.

If it closed too hard would cause serious chance of injury I suppose and I believe they don't want it stopping do to a minor door ajar and risk less uphill capacity. The gondolas seem to restart slower then most regular lifts.

Social media sucks in general but I feel bad for whoever runs Wildcat’s accounts. On Instagram anyway most posts are littered with comments about how Wildcat sucks now and how Black is crushing them. Gotta be deflating.

Same on Facebook. Not sure why they keep posting... 80+% of the comments are negative. It's been a ghost town so far this season.

My friend is at attitash today and texted me they're laying down impressive amount of snow this week. Ill check it out and report back next week after the vacation crowd leaves.

Man wildcat seems rough. Then again I have low expectations for that place in the first half of the season.

I know it's different countries and far away from each other. As well as from 20+ years ago (2003). But if after the Station night club fire - if you still have that egg foam sound proofing stuff anywhere near your club/restaurant/bar - what the h3ll are you doing? And to have sparklers around that stuff? Holy h3ll, that is some special kind of negligent. Some people are going to jail. . .

I was on The Station ID team. Not a pleasant task.
The Derdarian Brothers who owned the place both were found guilty.
Michael served 4 years. Jeffrey got probation

Wow. That's some tough duty there. The videos from outside of the Station on the night of the fire, with people being jammed/stuck in the doorways and people trying to pull/pry/force them out while they were screaming for help is absolute nightmare fuel still to this day.

Park City is so massive, it has 12 weather reporting stations on map. The other day it (finally) snowed, but because of warm air, most of the mountain received rain (i.e. zero snow). When you got to about 8,000 feet and above it turned to snow and the mountain received like 3 to 5 inches depending on where you were up high.

In addition to elevation effects, storm direction can matter too. For this storm, while the mountain got 0 to 5 inches, the top of Daybreak, which is only about 2 miles to Solitude, got 9 inches of snow, but this is at the top, and the only place that got that much. So what did Park City report for snow on their official daily snow report? They reported 9 inches.

The catch, beyond the fact this is literally the only spot on this massive property that got that much snow? No Daybreak terrain has opened for the season. Vail literally reported out the maximum snow on one spot on the mountain, and on 100% closed terrain that you cannot ski, as their "snow report" snow total for the day's skiing.

Is Wildcat having more wind holds than previously?

I ask as in relation to when they changed their chairs on the HSQ? The old ones were “heavy weight” but Vail changed to regular weight with new ones I suppose…

Doc from 05/21 here:
I've been thinking the same thing for a couple years...it all makes sense now, i wasn't aware they were lighter. If i remember correctly the chairs came from out west, they were used, but better than what was on the quad. So basically WC got free chairs that don't hold up in wind like the others

Alta reported 1" as of 5 AM, 45" base and 90" season total.

They are what, a few miles southwest of PC? Desperate times call for drastic measures. East is cold and snowy, still looking for a coupler large dumps to give us more tree access. An anomaly that is generally the other way around.
