Winter wipers worth it?

I tend to go through windshield wipers in about 3 months. Now with winter on the horizon, and I plan to do alot more travel, are winter wipers worth it? I usually get the Anco blades, not the cheapest, not the most expensive, but they do a great job until they wear out.
Anyone use or can recommend winter wipers?

I've always had good luck with Bosch. If there are additives or a different mix used in the blade rubber for cold temperatures, I'd say that's worth it, but the stupid covers that go over the rest of the blade I've found to be useless. More worthwhile just buying a high quality set of blades.

I don't use winter wipers, but I've had good experiences with Bosch wipers. They are a bit more expensive, though.

Bosch makes good stuff. The rubber covers are only good for knocking piled snow off teh windows, but you should be using a brush for that, anwyay. The worst part is they turn all grey, adn no amount of "Back to Black" will fix them.

I got wiper blades from NAPA, forget the name, but they dont have pivots. They are just one piece of metal that is slightly flexible so it molds itself to the contour of your windshield. Since there are no pivots to freeze-up, you never have that end of the blade not touching the windsheild. They really work great, I'll try to look them up for you.

I'm OCD about keeping my windshield clear and i just bot bosh wipers and they are great. HOWEVER- the best thing you can do is to RAIN-X the windshield. Makes all the difference in the world. I can drive in anything and barely need to turn the wipers on.

Good point there. Rain X rocks.

Also make sure you clean the snot residue off the inside of your windshield should your parent's labrador decide to power spray it with canine mucus.

I used to use rainex all the time. Then I waxed my windshield one day, and realized it works just as good. Its cheaper, and easier to apply, so I just use the wax.

The rubber covers are great for plowing and around town, but they suck for highway use. The wind catches them and they do not contact the windshield very good.

I find that fresh, regular (no special winter garde) wiper blades work just fine, but the key word here is fresh. I buy a new pair sometime in december and I'm fine for winter. I did not find Bosh to be superior to the less expensive ones.

As to Rain-X, the stuff is great for side and back windows but I'll never put it on the widshield again. As the wiper goes over the silicone film, it leaves a very fine layer of microbeaded water and it actually impedes visibilty. The same wiper going over a non-siliconized glass will have a "tighter" grip on the glass and does a beter job removing water.

I think if you get the thick layer of snow..with a freezing wind...it'll form some crud between the parts of Spring-Summer types...those are the times the Teflon Winter ones(one piece) surely make life easier...

i used rain-x in wind shield fluid form and it works great for me. it is only an extra dollar or two more than the regular stuff. i tried winter wipers before and had contact issues, i found regular wipers actually worked better since i was able to get full contact with the wind shield. guess it depends on the type of wiper and type of wind shield?
