magic. that is all. i'm not a real sentimental person or anything but this is a place skiers come to read and co-exist so i'll just say it. I want magic to stay in business. friday was the most crowded i've seen it in recent memory. and there was never a line at all. If you havent gone, go now. GO!

Magic

100% agree. Looking for a place to escape the lemmings during school vacation week when many passes and vouchers are blacked out? This is it. And with the snows from last week, its got the snow they need to serve you well.

Other than the lodge roof leak from too much snow, they are ready for you!

I was there on Thursday - it was suprising how little wind they had compared to Mt. Snow. Does Magic have a reputation of low winds?

Not really. Goniff, Twillight zone, trick, Medium, Mystery, Up your sleeve, Carpet, Vertigo are somewhat sheltered by Master faces NW and gets hammered. (Part of why it's tough to keep covered.)

I must have got lucky that day. What I do like is the older double lifts, close to the ground, sheltered by trees close by keeps the lift turning and us sitting ducks sheltered when sittin' on the lift.

Right. Except at the Witch merge, Redline is totally protected by tall pine trees. Wind is never a problem at Magic.

Great hill. Go support it! Most challenging terrain in Southern VT no question. A foot more of snow would put Magic in prime condition. It was great on Friday, but some of the mountain got severely windblown. If you like boney natural steep terrain, Magic rules! One of my new favorites.

Here's some more Magic Lovin'! (30+ MB)

Or for the bandwidth-challenged or those that don't mind low res:

Enjoy!

Definitely head to Magic if you haven't tried it out already. Great old school terrain and no crowds. I really like the vibe there. :)

Darn you Pat! ;)

B lot was nearly full today. When the black chair was being inspected the lines for red were the longest I've ever seen.

I was glad to see a long line at the ticket window. Magic is one of the best deals in the east. Hope they make out well for the rest of the season.

Wow, I've heard of Magic before but never new much about it. I thought it was just a small local hill, nothing to drive 2+ hours for.:smash: That video has convinced me to get out there and give it some midweek love this season.:-D

I'm almost 3 hours as well. With some natural, well worth it.

Definitely worth it. I drove 7 hours to ski it before I moved to VT! It was even worth that! Of course, there was also 3 feet of fresh powder, and they were 100%. It's really an unbelievable mountain. Kind of like a southern VT MRG.

Upper black isn't skiable. Unless you're nuts. So maybe...
Saw several people on Lucifer but I wasn't willing to risk life, limb, and skis.

Was Broomstick open? That looked totally skiable. Gnarley drift bumps, but skiable...

Yes. Looked like pretty big bumps but I didn't get to it. Red Line was also open, but not in anywhere near as good shape as Friday.

Just got in 2 runs while the wife was waiting: Goniff was ok - pick & choose. Talisman had nice bumps skiers left. Middle/Right was getting a bit scratchy. Several nasty rocks over on Magic Carpet.

Hmmmm.....so Friday's rope was a snow preservation tactic then...

grrrr. i was thinking that myself cause it gets skied off so quickly and with the upcoming holiday weekend, they may have wanted to present the best possible product to a bigger audience. oh well.

but there was NO closed sign on it. just rope. and bamboo.

they have held official mountain sponsored terrain competitions on upper black line, so it certainly is skiable. just needs a lot of snow. i guess a little nuts wouldn't hurt. i certainly wouldn't hesitate with most of the rocks covered up, but that would take a lot of snow. it was only put on the map recently i believe.
