Got two subscription offers in the mail the other day, one for Ski, and the other for Skiing. Both are $10 for 3 years, and a free fleece blanket. Gotta figure, that's a pretty good deal. $20 for two fleece blankets is a pretty good deal, all by itself.

Anyone else get these offers?

I've gotten similar deals. I've found deals through EBAY for subscriptions to all kinds of magazines. I've also been getting Ski magazine for the last 3 years for free from the Vailrentals.com website. Never rented a thing from them or heard of them before I started getting the magazine. I always think it's gonna end, but every season they keep sending it. :-D

I have the same subscription offer from Skiing Magazine sitting on my desk. I suppose that being that I have a paid, active subscription to SKI that I won't get the offer from them.

I got a fleece *blanket* with a subscription to SKI a few years back. It's not much larger than a bath towel. It works moderately well to dry the dogs off with if they're wet when they come in.

Yeah, we'll probably use them to cover the back seat for our dog. Seems like a lot of ouor blankets end up doing that.

I've managed to somehow get free subscriptions to both those magazines before in the past. One of them (skiing I think) even started showing up twice with two slightly variations on my name, one was the 'East' version(had the section towards the rear covering Eastern skking) and the other not. If they continue to show up then I'll continue to thumb through them while on the crapper, but I'm not even planning on expending the energy to try and find the free deals again..

ETA: I meant to also say that I would feel like I was getting fleeced if I actually paid for a subscription to either of those publications... ;)

I got the Skiing one. They made it tempting enough that I'm going to get it, even though I generally find little to read in their magazines. I always enjoy the resort-ranking issue even though I think the rankings are way off.

I've had free subscriptions in the past too. Even if it were $10 for the year I'd probably pass. But $10 for 3 years + a blanket ... that I can go for.

Who pays?
I've been getting free subs to both for a looooong time. I know one is from signing up for free benne's at Warran Miller Movies, but the other, not sure.
Maybe because I handle the ski support stuff for a local school?

I was of the impression that Skiing was no longer going to be published. Am I wrong? I've gotten some "offers" as well that I've not looked at.

I really dislike both of those magazines because the stories seem shallow and promotional to me. I doo like the pictures though. I would like a magazine with more in depth reporting and information, but I am not sure if such a magazine exits offline. The trip reports here are nice.

I get Ski, Skiing and SnowEast. I've always been a magazine junky with subsciptions to mags of whatever subject I am into at the time.

Ski and Skiing in my mailbox. Yeah, they're not great, but they're still skiing mags, and I've come to chat up some of the editors here and there, and they're good folks.

Got Powder for a year. Or actually, subscribed to Powder for a year but got about 2 issues. My calls to customer service were greeted with a, "Yeah, sorry. Anything else we can do?"

You mean other than give me my magazines? Or a refund?

Apparently neither was an option.

I got a free year for SKI a couple years ago with my 10-ticket ASC pass. Read it some, nothing really in there to get me to actually pay for it.

I can't stand it when I don't get the East Version... is Massachusetts not on the East Coast anymore?

Someone wanna hook me up with a free subscription? Cool!

I get Skiing for free, still trying to figure out how, but it keeps coming, so I don't complain! I remember getting it free when I worked at Smuggs as a ski instructor, but I haven't worked there for 10 years now, yet I still get the mag.. i'm not complaining!

Hey Arik.

Check out The Ski Journal... This may be the publication you are looking for. More of a coffee table book than a throw away mag, covering all aspects of ski culture.
