Thought of this after reading all the "I go to the bar" answers in the Wind Hold thread.

I absolutely love the party atmosphere that comes with skiing. Having some beers in a warm pub or bar after a tough day skiing, or on a sun deck out West, in good weather, is such a great experience. So too are downing some cold ones in the hot tub, or playing a board game/drinking game with a fun group back at the ski house/hotel.

However, I have to say, I find nothing enjoyable about skiing with a buzz, skiing after beers, skiing drunk, etc...I find myself having to pee, not skiing well, and, eventually getting tired/headache. My understanding is that most everyone on this forum skis athletically, so I am not going to use the line "I ski hard, its an athletic sport, so I can't drink and do it" because, I believe, there are skiers superior to me on here who DO drink and ski...

I know a lot of people enjoy drinking some beers during ski breaks, and I was just wondering if y'all could expound on how it is enjoyable to head back out to the hill after that.

I also find it a little worrisome that, in addition to having to worry about your general out of control, wahoo skier, later in the afternoon you have to also worry about decent skiers who are buzzed/drunk. I am sure the vast majority know their limit, but I am equally as sure that there are a handful who do not.

What does everyone think?

I like skiing with a buzz but only a few times a season..mainly gaper day..I don't feel like I ski that much worse when I'm drinking but that might be my perception..the thing that sucks the most is constantly having to pee.

After a safety meeting..I feel like I ski just fine,..

A beer at lunch. Maybe two if taking a break for an hour. Most likely none. I feel too sluggish.

Absolutely. I ski better after a beer or two. It helps me relax and loosen up a bit, and is particularly helpful for me in the bumps.

Don't get me wrong, I don't go out and get totally destroyed then ski, but I feel that a couple beers at lunch actually improves my skiing.

A couple at lunch keep me from stiffening up at least that is what I tell myself. I used to have e few on the way to the mountain then a one on the lift up for the first run but as stated we were all stupid at one point.

I'm a flask nipping man. Beer bloats me. A small sip of schnapps or baerenJaeger is my speed. Beers are better apres ski, imo. PBR pounder buried in a snowbank all day, poy fect!

I usually meet a crew on Sat and Sunday's around lunch. Usually a quick beer sometimes two. If we have more we just call it a day, I'm a 1/2 run away from my place, a shuttle ride or a 10 min walk. My wife drives. I gots a good deal.

only after I'm done for the day...alcohol goes straight to my legs, even one beer and my legs will feel like concrete. I've skied and drank a handfull of times, first was at 14, tequilla with a cranberry juice chaser on the lift at Stowe in pea soup fog...clipped a tree while skiing in the woods. The only other times were when living in Vail...we'd do the "minturn mile" which is OB off the backside - not resort skiing...nice and open top part of the run then it ends up in a valley, stop at the head of the valley, hang out, down a bottle of wine or beers, etc, then its about a 1000 vert of a luge run straight down to the town of Minturn, click off the skis and head to the Minturn Saloon for pitcher of margaritas...and wait for your ride to come get you. The only other people out there are on the same program.

Yeah, I said this in the other thread that was on the exact same subject. . . .

I consider Skiing to be an athletic sport. I don't drink before I play basketball, so I don't drink before skiing.

I do drink before, after, and during the following sports: Darts, Pool, Bowling, Golf, Softball, and Poker.

If I have a beer or two at lunch, then I know that my serious skiing is done for the day. I might take 1 or 2 real easy cruisers if its a nice day, but generally speaking for me once the cold, frosty, malted beverage hits the lips the skiings done for the day.
