....from my source on the ground.

They have new season pass software, with a glitch, so the whole pass thing isn't working.

And they can't get enough ski patrol.

So they just gave up on the lower snowmaking and decided not to open.

EPIC. FAIL.

No offense HS, but is this the same source who told you that they WERE going to open this weekend, and that the Lower East fall/Canyon run out would be an option???

Yep....and a very good source at that. Of course they WERE going to open this weekend, but gave up. Evidently, these issues were just too much to overcome.

I doubt if any of those issues are the reason they didn't open.

Even if they did have a software glitch they can still print paper tickets with scannable barcodes going from a list of SP holders....resorts do this all the time.

They don't need very many patrollers for one trail

the real reason killington isn't opening is that they had NO INTENTIONS of opening early

the "beast of the east" rollout and early snowmaking push was merely a stunt to help sell more K50 and Season Pass products before the Oct 15th deadline

and its not like these guys DON'T have a track record of being deceptive. Remember the kids program price increase announcement that took place after everyone was locked in? Remember how they extended last season JUST long enough to sell season passes then closed on a Saturday? Remember how they tried to obfuscate their culpability in the killing of BMMC by attempting to pass the buck to the Vermont DLC?

These guys are charlatans of the WORST order and this is the last season I'm going to be at their mountain.

Why not make last season the last season you'll be there? Isn't that more in keeping with your opinions of them?

Mountain bashing. I don't get it.

The real reason is they heard one of their top 30 skiers is going to Sunday River next year so they did just give up.

That's also what I heard from my most secret, reliable, inside source that knows everything that's happening behind the scene at K

Also heard that they had not seen enough postings of EPIC.FAIL here and at Kzone so just to be sure they were getting the right publicity they continue to piss off Highway Star

Nice source, i bet i could make a phone call and post the REAL reason, its amazing what the power of the media can do, as for your source have them pick ONE option and stick with it, no mountain is not going to open due to a glitch in software, they would have their IT guys on that so fast, it just isnt time, stick to the loaf or SR if you like WROD lol

Killington will open when they are ready!

But consult your source first! LOL

I just don't think that is realistic... I would think it would cost way more $ to make snow than any money they would bring in through season pass sales and K50 sales from a few days. Then again they could be banking on the people who purchased those items to buy alot of over priced food and beer in the lodge to make up the difference.

as a season pass holder, when i actually thought i would be skiing this weekend, i was imagining what an incredible mess it was going to be with throngs of passholders stampeding the ticket windows trying to get day tickets. it really coulda been a factor in this ...

Just tried to look at the Mt view cam on the web site. It is not there now. Replaced by the weather. Interesting?

I think this thread is hysterical. I also find it amusing that Mount Snow is opening 1 trail, lift serviced before Kmart does.

You can't make this kind of stuff. K is just handing their business out to whomever wants it. Sad actually.

I think they are just doing some updating, as the words there now say "You're looking at Killington Peak, the highest lift-served terrain in Vermont at 4,241 feet.." and yesterday it said something like "you're looking at K1".

There is still this cam http://www.basinski.com/livetowercamera.html

Talk about LOL. I'm betting that you had no intention of saying that both SL and SR were offering WROD, but instead, were saying to stick to the Loaf or that if you want WROD, go to SR. Yet the way you structure you sentence - in an effort to bash SR - you made fun of you own mountain. How sad. The again maybe that was your intention.

If you want to "report" on ski related things, as you said in your opinion poll, bashing other resorts is just no the way to gain credibility.

Skiing is skiing - get over it!
