It is now called Cannonball. Same crappy trail, though. Just as wind blown as ever. That is one big FU to the old man. The mountain used to be called Profile Mountain. Goodbye history! At least Cannonball is a respectable name and ties into the lift. Gotta wonder why they felt the need to change it? Perhaps because Profile has such a bad name? To paraphrase the bard, A trail by any other name would suck as much.

I shouldn't really care but that trail and that lift still piss me off! Those t-bars served a very good purpose and that quad changed the way I skied Cannon on a cold day....not in a good way

I like the trail when there is snow on it. It can have some good bumps at the bottom of it. It was suppose to be a winding tail like all the others at the summit but the state highway dept thought better. So the story goes.

While we are talking about Cannon's trail names.... Cannon grew again this year with "Zoomalanche" and "Skateway". How about the shortest trail perhaps in all of New England.... "Ride Around". Seriously? Hey Cannon Marketing Department! You guys are really stretching things here.... Pretty soon Cannon will have 100 trails.... not even counting Mittersill! Not as bad as what Stowe has done but getting there....

Yup,I call BS on the trail addition crap.Zoomalanche was actually there last year.I think last years changes were even worse. On the trail report we now have 2 Lower Cannons,2 Gremlins and 2 Redballs. They don't even have different names and they are counted twice. What?Besides that,Cannon got bombed this weekend with over 2 feet on 12 more trails than 2 years ago without lifting a saw.

Just thought of this today while passing in front of the lodge but the rename could also be in conjunction with the "Cannonball Pub" being opened. Makes sense for the pub to be named after a trail (vice versa, though, hmmmmm...).

The trail count inflation has been going on for four or five year's now. I think on an AZ Challenge, I called out Cannon on the "Upper Lower Hard" addition (which has since become "Short Fuze"). The addition of "Missing Link" was quite ballsy. :???:

Yeah, this is getting a bit ridiculous. Kristen said it also, all these new trails and no cutting involved! Wow, that 'new' trail that has been there for 40 years, is almost 20 yards long, now has a name!

I talked with Stowe's Marketing Director after the more than doubling of the trail count. Their response was that they really didn't have a choice as they were losing destination travelers, especially British, to other Vermont areas as they appeared much smaller on paper compared to their neighbors to the South.

I always appreciated the honest count of 48, but understand why they made change. Business is business.

I just took a look at Cannon's trail map to see where all these "new" trails are. Skateway, Missing Link and Short Fuse are all  additions, but "Ride Around" (off of Jasper's Hideaway, leading to the Tram base) has to take the cake.

One of those four has to set a record as the shortest named trail anywhere.

That would definitely be Ride Around. As I recall, I think I took four or five turns on that trail... and only because it is rather steep for its short pitch. Its about a quarter the length of Black Hole at Sunday River for some perspective. I think if I hocked it up really good, I could spit the entire length of the trail.

Business is business.
So is standing for something and having integrity. Stowe is more interested in the business it seems. :D Surprised they were so hard up for clientel... they could always make up for those lost Euro travelers by increasing their price another $10 or so... you know, just under the $100 mark so it doesn't look so bad "on paper" compared to other resorts. :-x

Not ripping on you, DHS... just hate to see this kind of marketing bull crap. It makes it more difficult to actually evaluate resorts from a purely analytic perspective because the numbers mean absolutely nothing.

I'd prefer honesty over fish stories myself. Trick would be getting everyone to play by the same rules.
