Copied this from that NBC live blog coverage site:

Looks like Team U.S.A. might need an extra weight allowance when they make their way home from these Games, for all the hardware they're going to be hauling. Dominating the medal standings thus far, the U.S.A. has 18 medals to Germany's 11, with 4 of those in Alpine skiing, looking set to boost up to an unprecendent 6. This American team moves up in the ranks to become the most successful Alpine Skiing team fielded by the U.S.A. in history.

There's gonna be a lot of new skiers on NASTAR course this weekend!
Weibrecht is another one not on anyone's radar. Lake Placid is gonna be mega proud.

He runs again Sunday on the S-C. Lucky dude.

I can't wait to see what NBC shows on TV tonight. I am fully prepared for full disappointment.

Why would you waste your time with NBC?

3 DNF in a row, then 3 seconds off the pace, then 5 seconds off the pace, then 7 seconds off the pace

I think it's over

I would much rather see Weibrecht - as the guy who dreamed the dream and came out of nowhere. But... it will go to the prettiest, and that's not Bode!!

Weibrecht is not out of nowhere. He has about 4 top 15 finishes in the SG (3 this season) and 4 in the DH and some pretty good combined finishes. If he was starting outside the first 30 it would be out of nowhere.

He really uncorked one.

I'm talking about outside the media.

Even NBC said so much:

"
Weibrecht, Miller and Mancuso's Performances Raise Questions About Intense Media Scrutiny
The hype and scrutiny was trained on Lindsey Vonn going into these Olympic Games, leaving Julia Mancuso, Bode Miller and Andrew Weibrecht to quietly prepare themselves. Their unexpectedly strong performances through the first four races in the Alpine Skiing events (men's downhill, ladies' downhill, ladies' supercombined and men's Super G), generating 6 medals thus far for Team U.S.A. raises questions about the impact intense media scrutiny can have on athletes at this level. Yesterday, Vonn, highly touted as the favourite to win 5 medals at the Games, caught her tip on a slalom gate, after leading the morning's downhill standings. The Canadian favourites, Whistler's Robbie Dixon and Manuel Osborn-Paradis both crashed on the course this morning, while dark horse Erik Guay posted 5th in both the men's Super G and men's downhill. The Austrian racers, the equivalent of the Canadian hockey team or American basketball team have only one medal to show for themselves in Alpine Skiing, Elisabeth Goergl's bronze in the women's downhill. Lake Placid, NY's Andrew Weibrecht won himself a bronze medal with a stellar performance today, that held up against 61 other skiers. He told media after this race that Mancuso's performances had been particularly encouraging. "It's been great watching Julia and Lindsey and nothing from Lindsey, but especially Julia because she hasn't had a lot of success over the last few years but she's in there now and hitting the ground running. Julia kind of, I'm not going to say came out of nowhere, but she didn't have the results she's been having this week. I'm really impressed on how she did, to kind of come out of obscurity and throw down the run she did, it's pretty encouraging and reminds us about what we can do." One wonders if a lack of spotlight pre-Games is part of a winning formula? Tomorrow, the hypothesis will be tested, when Vonn and Mancuso race again in the Ladies' Super-G, starting at 10am. Mancuso is now the most decorated female skier in American Alpine racing history, matching Miller's efforts. Chelsea Marshall and Leanne Smith will also be riding the momentum of the Team's stellar successes."

Bode - WOW!! Just watched his run on NBC, he used his Downhill skis instead of the shorter Super G skis. In the slow motion replay you could see him clipping the gates and in fact he actually attacked a few gates like a GS race and sent the gates flying from 65MPH contact with his arm pads!

I won't be contributing to this thread during the race today :( as I'll be driving to VT, and somethign tells me that the CT/MA/VT police wouldn't take too kindly to me madly typing away on my Blackberry as I'm cruising down the roads ;)

Not unreasonable to think that 2 US men could medal in this one (a bit more of a stretch than the last couple of ladies events), but Bode and Ted have been skiing quite well as of late, and Andrew Weibrecht is definitely coming into his own this season with some very solid results, and as of now it appears that it's only a matter of time before he has his big break through, podium finish day. Why not today???

WOW!!! FINALLY got around to seeing the results from today. Not to toot my own prognastication horn, but look at my pre-race call above ;) ;) (toot toot!!) Unbelievable olympics thus far for the US Ski and Snowboarding team, 6 alpine medals, 5 snowboarding medals, 3 freestyle medals and 1 nordic medal :flag: :flag: :flag:

Medal haul continues tomorrow! Atleast 1 more in the women's SG from Lindsey and the way that Julia's been skiing, if her service tech doesn't screw up the wax job, she's totally a podium threat too. And realistically the way both the men's and women's teams are skiing right now, I honestly think that the only remaining event where it would suprise me to see a US skier on the podium is the women's slalom, but with the momentum the US team has now, who knows!

Watching the medal presentation ceremonies now for the SG. I mst say that as a longtime US alpine Ski Racing fan, and a longtime Bode fan, it's so great to see the look of just pure enjoyment that he has on his face at the medal ceremonies. Bode practically looks more visually awestruck then Andrew Weibrecht does. The transformation from the Bode of Torino to "Team Bode" to practically retiring to this new, just have fun Bode is so nice to see! I'm betting just a bit that one of the key factors around this new Bode, was him becoming a dad 2 years ago. Just kind of puts things into perspective for many folks and gets them realizing that there's bigger issues in life then just themselves!
