I dunno what it was this weekend. I must have seen close to a dozen people rocking the straight skis. An a few of them were pretty good! It was almost like being transported back 15-20 years ago...200cm skis, skis practically touching...neon graphics.

Noticed it down here as well. A couple of years ago after a big snowfall it was really apparent. You gotta think they were pulled from the closet by people who don't get out too much anymore.

Old time conditions call for old time gear!
I know several people who are entirely comfortable on straight skis and simply cannot afford to buy new gear. But they get out. Good for them!
Pics? Not so much. Why would I want to be taking pics of straight skis? I can find hundreds of them on ebay at ridiculous prices. We had a yard sale one year. Nobody would take them for $10. When I offered them for free, they were gone in ten minutes. Go figure..

Newly retirees maybe Glenn? ...or indeed maybe something special going on(I haven't checked Epicski lately...Philpug would know..or maybe he's combined a whole decade's worth of vacation and has taken off for either BC or AK). Might indeed be a 20yr anniversary of the introduction of the shapes here in NewEngland....the date, to my memory, seems about right = 20yrs = 1991season....within the realm of the shaped revolution.

When I first saw the thread title, I thought it was in reaction to Gay Ski Week at Stowe and the upcoming one in Whistler. Carry on.

Yes on all three! There were a number of people in jeans as well. However! We now have to make a note: "New" neon or classic. Seems that some new attire has a good amount of neon in it. I can't beleive it's sorta making a comeback.
No pics. The best view I had was from the lift and didn't have time to get out the old BlackBerry.
We did ride the lift with a guy who had some really old Atomics and was in a purple one piece.
I understand that skiing ain't cheap. And I certainly don't expext everyone to have the latest and the greatest. But given the advantage of modern skis, I just can't see the purpose of the straight sticks. I'm sure you could get a decent pair of more modern skis for under $100.

He's happy with the devil he knows rather than the devil he doesn't. He's also got two kids in college
He has no desire to "improve" and only skis one or two days per year. Sometimes nothing per year.

Actually, I was very happy on my old stick skis, only bought new so I didn't feel so out of place skiing...I'm vain lol. They were very maneuverable in the bumps, even though they were long.
But my neighbor is crazy...awesome skier, but still insists on using his Olin Mark somethings from mid 80s. He asked hubby to help him put some edges back on, they were coming off and needed glue or something...begged hubby to not touch them, I didn't want his fingerprints on those sh!t skis when they finally flew apart. The guy is just an odd duck with a serious 'yankee frugal' mentality...he is a banking executive (so no $ problems whatsoever) who takes a PB sandwich to lunch EVERY day...AND..he uses the same piece of tin foil for 2 weeks. That's right boys and girls...he uses side A for 5 days..then flips over and uses side B for next 5 days. He admitted he will eat anything that is not smelly or moldy...so I no longer touch food from their house as the mayo could be expired a year. At least his wife finally got new equipment a few years ago and he's kids are up to date. Oh..he also has THE original Burton ski coat - purple, green and black...the only ski coat he has purchased since ~1986.

Not my neighbor (see above). He's searched for new skis, asks hubby's advice and never pulls the trigger. When he finally does, it will certainly NOT be MSRP!

A friend of mine had an Uncle like that. The family said: "Uncle_____ will be the richest man in the graveyard someday..."
I have no idea if his Uncle skied on Olin Mark IV's though.....
