It is a inevitable certainty that advance sale, VT and NH bulk lift tickets made available to clubs and groups will substantially increase in price this season. Our club has recently received official communications indicating such. Since we have to purchase these tickets in July, planning is already underway and the notion of a summer pre-sale is being floated about to mitigate club risk. The only good news in this is that Killington is back in play for discounts.

I am not an economist, but I do know that energy is the #1 resort expense. With oil prices through the roof, alternate energy source costs will also rise (thank you supply-and-demand.) Not only will our commute be more costly, but so will mountain operations. I suspect we are going to see substantial increases across the industry. I suspect the best deals will be for those who have pre-purchased next season's pass.

What % are the prices going up for ski clubs and groups???

Estimates indicate 20-25% increases for high priced areas and 40-100% for low priced areas, on the average. Clubs that can continue to leverage volume discounts are best positioned. Some clubs may be forced to consider "group rates", which pose a myriad of restrictions.

Even still, these tickets are still at substantial discounts from window rates; I'm guessing perhaps 30-45% discount since resorts have not yet announced 08-09 rates.

I certainly realize that rising operation costs (energy) is a big factor, but I'm wondering if the rise in cost might also be attributed to ski areas anticipation that more people will be joining clubs to save money as other costs in everyday life have gone up.

Not to mention that GSS is in a category all by himself..

GSS has been in a category by himself since 1996. If you have some time to kill now that the snow has melted and it's too hot to do yard work, read some of the gems in the rec.skiing.alpine Usenet archive with quick search on "SallyDoug". His body of work as a high schooler was second to none. He's a true ski internet celebrity.

Every resort is diferent as far as prices for groups as are the many diferent types of groups. To get the rates the particular resort should be contacted.

When I moved back from Maine in 2006 I took a job at the Bush for the 06/07 season I knew would be a challange. To my recollection no one at the Bush has ever done the job two seasons in a row. The job was Group Ticket Coordinator, I did the tiks for ski clubs, shop employees, tour groups, industry bulk tiks, special events and regular groups.

Most resorts do not publish their group rates unless it's a general price for a non industry connected group. The minimum at many resorts is 20 adults for this rate but you need to call the resort to get the details. Alot of variance out there.

Specific to ski clubs, members should not call resorts for rates but should be left up to the club rep to get that info. Everything is channelled from the resort thru the club rep and vica versa. Any questions, contact the club.

These are the general rules I worked with but any resort could handle things diferently. I really enjoyed working with all the groups two seasons ago. It looks like they have alot of fun and the rates are awesome.

Questions about clubs (new to this eastern newbie):

1. Have I completely missed the boat, timing-wise? It looks like everything was locked up for this ACE club in June. Are there still discounted tickets available (at this club or other similar clubs that people are aware of)?

2. Has anyone found a similar, recommended club in the NY area? I've skimmed some of the master listings of clubs, but the features and emphasis vary considerably, and most seem to be more of the package trips/bus trips/lodge variety, which has less appeal for me.

Even the "awareness days" seem to be worth the relatively small price of admission (http://www.skiclub.com/documents/CSCAw07-08plusdiscounts.pdf), but I'd love to buy up some discounted tickets so I can have some flexibility.

Thanks!

You're not too late to join & take advantage of the discounts from one of the member clubs of the Connecticut Ski Council. Go to

www.skiclub.com

and find a member club that works for you. The bulk discount ticket offerings will be announced in late August plus they have awareness days every weekend from Dec. 1 thru April 10 or so, depending on the year. I join one of the member clubs for $40 for the year which entitles me, my wife and all of my children to discounts all year long. It's hard to beat.

Thanks--I will definitely do that. Seems like a great deal.

I have poked around a bit on the various CSC clubs' websites, and will contact a few that look convenient. If anyone has a recommendation for a club that works well for people that don't actually live in the area (relatively low dues, willing to send tickets via mail, etc.), please let me know.
