After bumping the other thread and seeing that it was started about the same time of the as it is now I decided to make a new goals thread.
My goals are:
  • Learn how to ski moguls. Even though I really don't want to I know it will help me a ton in all other aspects of skiing. Anyway once I get decently good at moguls I will probably have way more fun in them.
  • Ski 30+ days. Also atleast 10 of those days backcountry. The backcountry part all depends on my dad, but I think he will do it.
  • Ski atleast 10,000 ft of vertical without assitance from a lift. Yeah, I have mental problems. Maybe I should try it one night at Wawa... :lol:I doubt I will able to do it this year, but it is defiantly a life goal.
  • Get better at glades. I think I improved a lot this year, but I still have a long way to go. Getting better at moguls will help this a lot.
  • Go to Saddleback and MRG.

Here's what I posted in last year's thread and what I did and didn't accomplish:

Greg said:
1. Ski Burke for the first time
Nope!

Greg said:
2. Ski Cannon for the first time
Nope!

Greg said:
3. Ski Sunapee for the first time
Yup! :)

Greg said:
4. Ski at least 20 days
Yup! :)

Greg said:
5. Return to Sugarloaf
Nope! :(

Greg said:
6. Return to MRG
Nope! :(

Greg said:
7. Return to Sugarbush
Yup! :)

Greg said:
8. Get my daughter on plastic skis, even if it's just in the yard or at a local sledding hill
Nope! But the brainwashing was effective I think. She will start ski school in 2006-07.

Greg said:
9. Get new boots
Yup! :)

Greg said:
10. Get my wife out skiing some more
Nope! But considering she was pregnant and recovering from a C-section, I'll give her a pass. ;)

Greg said:
11. Ski with other AZers
Yup! :) Quite a few.

Greg said:
12. Get some more experience in the trees
Nope! Never had a chance to ski any glades with enough cover.

Greg said:
13. Improve on the bumps
Yup! :daffy:

So...in addition to the nopes above, this season's additional goals are:
  • Ski at least 25 days
  • Ski at least 12 days with my daughter.
  • Hit the bumps at sundown as much as possible.
  • Ski the MRV resorts.
  • Ski Gore
  • Ski Whiteface
That should keep me busy...

3. Win the NET Tele mogul comp (not very likely)
4. Find/Cut more local's trails at my "home" resort.
5. Win a platinum medal racing on my tele gear and course beat Tree_skier every race (not likely either)

Im new to the board relatively so I dont have any goals posted from last year but I did meet some of my own personal goals this year.

Reached a new personal best for times on the hill with 43. This was quite a feat considering every day consisted of at least 1 hour in the car each way.

Learned how to ride switch down anything on the hill, not just on 180 landings.

Some goals for next year....

Get out west, either Crested Butte or Jackson. Both are supposed to have some of the best extreme terrain in the west.

Learn 3's. Ive got buddies who live in park, itd be nice to keep up.

Get to Jay peak at least once with my buddies who call it their home mt. Ive heard there are some real sweet locals only type spots....

I hope to ski 60 times. I've never hit that number yet.

Ski trips to Jay and Tucks

I havn't been to Hunter in 6 years, I want to ski there again.

I havn't skied at K-mart in 7 years, I hope to keep that streak going.

Goals question.................

All, when I read this it makes me think that many of you actually set goals for the coming season and review your goals from the previous one. Although, I applaud everyone for setting goals, I am not so sure I would view the sport from a goals perspective. That is most likely easier said than done especially if you are lucky enough to get to ski alot. From the posts, many of you seem to log a fair amount of days. Given that you are lucky enough to ski regularly, I would look at it from an enjoyment factor and recognize that there is so much more than going up and down the hill. So, in many ways I look at goals of the season/ski day as just that one run that sticks in my mind as one of the top runs of the season and then I just kind let that run sit in my mind and recall the feeling that I had taking the run.

So on that note, best runs of the season.....................

1. Dec 10: beautiful pow on Twist (SB): I got to open the run...............since the ski area wouldn't

2. Dec 22: opening day of Castle Rock............what a great day (37,000 verts)

3. Feb 19 - 23: 120 cm plus for the week in La Grave

4. Feb 10 - 14: 4 ft of fresh for 5 days at Valhalla powder cats (this is a very good budget cat op and one I would suggest to many to use).

5. April 22 - 27: Fairy Meadows hut and 32,000 verts toured in the 6.5 days which was wonderful glacial pow and incredible scenery.

So, that "looks" pretty good, but to start the season there were no goals, only Fairy Meadows was planned and I simply let the season develop. Still, with all those great places to ski (and this certainly was a great season from that perspective), that run on twist I think still sits in my mind as maybe the best. The others were deeper, steeper and at fantastic places, but the "feeling" that I had when I came onto twist and saw the whole run laid out in front of me with just this velvet layer of pow and no bumps (don't get me wrong, I love bump skiing) and how cherry it skied was an incredible feeling and I can still see the run now in my mind.

So, for next year...................stretch your season, go the places you've wanted to go but for some reason never had, and drink in the feeling of skiing and how great a sport it is and that nothing in the world comes even close..................no other sport has Whistler, Chamonix, Aspen, Alta, Whitewater, MRG............

As a final idea, I would consider road tripping internal British Columbia. There are so many ski areas, you actually do not need hotel reservations, just book the first night or so and then let the storms dictate where you go............AHM

Not setting many goals this year. I wanted to ski 70+ days I made it. I'm with Zand here a bit. I want to ski before Thanksgiving and into May. That has been the norm for the last few years. Goals have become givens.:daffy: I love that icon.

1) I want to take a look at hiking and skiing late season to keep it going. I'm going to get the right gear. I have asked for a nice ski back pack to hike with and carry my skies for a present and I'll buy a shorter lighter pair of skies to carry.

2) Meet a few more Az folk. I'm really excited about all the night skiing groups getting out. A real positive direction Az is going in.
As Chile said to me at one night a couple of years ago... I see this as a place where we can get together and enjoy what we do. Its happening.
3) Get some deals with resorts for the group..

Excellent positive thread Austin.

My goals for next season 2005/2006 would be:

#1) To ski the last three remaining resorts/areas in Vermont that remain unskied: Bolton Valley, Cochran's and Bear Mountain Resort.

We skied Bolton Valley:razz: , Cochran's was closed for the season by the time we made it up to Bolton:sad:

#2) Extend the season to 8 months or more if possible in the east.

I only skied from November 24th, 2005 - April 16th, 2006 in the East.

#3) Take a trip out west with my son.

My son and I will be at Mammoth in two weeks:razz:

#4) Improve my son's skiing with lessons and on snow experience.

His skiing improved alot, and he skied glades and double black trails for the first time.

#5) Ski at least 30-40 days next season.

I only got in 22 days so far, with two more expected out west.
