Also Monday's nights team @ Pat's.

Ga2ski: #3 in the NATION on tele's, #1 in NH.

I have a hard time believing #1's stat's: an 11 handicap?!?! He has put in 56 races already, so I guess it could be possible. Maybe.

1/12/05 Update

Here are the current AZ NASTAR team rankings.
- The Pat's team (ranked 333) is progressing nicely, with everyone racing (and swamping our virtual team ranked 532, in the process) - shows what a little camraderie will do for you!
- The Virtual F/F while gaining in teammates fell in its ranking, probably due to better teams coming online. We also only have 4 people who have raced thus far, so that hurts. If you haven't raced, get out when you can and do it.
- The Club team is posting an impressive improvement, moving up from 298 to 171, largely on the strenth of 3 more members posing scores. We still need teammates to get to the magic number of 15. HELP WANTED, No experience necessary!

Remember all these rankings are national and any score is better than no score. The top scores are taken into the overall score and ranking and poor scores do not detract.

AZ Pat's Peak Team:
1/12 - 7 members, 7 raced, Ranked 333 out of 1562

Friends/Family AZ Virtual Team:
1/10 - 5 members, 3 raced, Ranked 499 out of 1441
1/12 - 8 members, 4 raced, ranked 532 out of 1562

AZ Virtual Club Team
1/10 - 7 members, 4 raced, Ranked 298 out of 746
1/12 - 9 members, 7 raced, ranked 171 out of 777

I am keeping an open opinion about the need for both a virtual friends/family and a virtual club team. Big, club teams, or a collection of smaller f/f teams are one possibility. I want to see how many more signups we can collect. Then we can decide what the best format is for our virtual teams.

Get out there and enjoy the skiing. If you stumble on a NASTAR course and are not already signed up, take the run, then come home, logon to NASTAR.com and join the team after-the-race. It's all legit!

I'm psyched. This is coming together better than I expected. Now we need a thread for NASTAR banter and bragging rights.....

come on give me some credit. . . I'm #2. :p
http://www.nastar.com/index.jsp?yea...ings=special&specialtype=Telemark&agegroup=40

Dave P-Q-nes's (former SR RSN Host) handicap was messed up yesterday. I can't believe I have a better handicap than him. He is a must better tele skier than me.

I also can't figure how the #1 guy get his scores. He most of his handicaps are close to the rest of us except one or two runs each day. Oh well.

You absolutely deserve a LOT of credit. I hold a high level of admiration for Tele skiers in general and you in particular. Great score.

It seems as if something may be fishy where that #1 fellow races, Windham. Look at the par for the course. It runs between 26 to 28. That's a pretty long time.
Here are the NASTAR guidelines, in part: " NASTAR encourages resorts across the country to standardize their course(s) to have a par time of 23 seconds and set courses so that no course is within 5% of the cap time. The "cap time" is defined as the time it takes a pacesetter to tuck from the start to the finish of their course without going around gates and is the fastest possible time the venue will allow."

Second, notice that his fellow is getting raw times that are better than almost every alpine skier. I smell a rat.

I suspect that there is something intrinsic in the course that allows the telemarker an advantage. Either more gates or a longer course. I don't know.

p.s., You contribute a point to the team's overall score just for finishing the course. Kinda like frequent flyer miles!

Well I joined the Friends/Family team and entered a few races. It was fun. I am not quick, but at least I finished the courses each time for the point

Thanks Tom! Glad you had fun. That's all that matters. And now you've got the point, they can't take it away from you! I checked your numbers, and you are getting progressively better. Whittling your handicap down. That's all that matters, that you are improving!

And, you got us into the top half. We're still behind the Pat's Peak team, but heh, they are getting to be pros!

I am hoping to get some runs in on Friday, perhaps increase my point contribution, if I don't backslide!

i could see me racing but this must be hard on a board, maybe i'll ski when i race.

Do it! They handicap boards and tele by 10 points, if I remember right. Some of the highest scorers are teles, believe it or not.
We've still got room and still need points. All ya gotta do is finish and you get a point. Just finish before breakfast.... ;)

Yup. Telemarkers and Snowboarders get 10 points taken off their handicap.

Does NASTAR require a helmet when racing?

I went to the NASTAR website and didn't see any rules there requiring helmets and I went through the Pat's Peak Rules and didn't see any requirement for helmets there either...

At the evening races I don't recall seeing anyone there without a helmet...it only seems to make sense to wear one while racing...

I didn't see any rules on NASTAR or Sunapee, either. It does make sense to wear a brain bucket, I agree, but I'm not likely to go buy one in order to ski NASTAR. If I'm there already, I'll race, but not if I have to do something extra. Lazy that way...

At our first race, I asked the starter if a helmet was required, and he said no.

There are a few racers at Pat's without helmets, but most wear them. I raced the first night without one, but after watching Bob R go into the woods after his last run, I went out and bought one. I used it for the first time on Monday.
