For me it is the feeling of freedom as you fly down the mountains. When I am skiing I forget all my other problems, etc and just enjoy the feeling of freedom. I guess I am adicted because it is the only thing I do where I can forget all my other problems and just have fun!

I have to agree. I'm addicted because it's just plain fun.

But the anatomy of a ski addict? I'd have to say it's someone who can enjoy being outdoors when it's 20 below (as long as he's dressed for it and he's skiing), who'll do just about anything to get in one more run or one more ski day, and who dreads the coming of warm weather like most people dread going to the dentist (no offense to any dentists out there, but hey, face facts!).

Wait a minute -- this sounds like me!!!

Wow...errraahhhh...let's see.

1) Speed junky
2) Physical challenge to constantly improve...improvements are forthcoming @ a pace that feeds the ego.
3) Mental challenge, overcoming speed barriers/gradient barriers...improvements @ a pace etc.
4) Geek Freak quotient...ski specs, boot specs, NASTAR times, etc
5) So many places to ski...to see. Feeds the challenges in #2 and #3
6) So many other skiers / riders sharing the same viewpoint.

...it's a frickin "Do Loop"!

Bump...cool thread..I might be a geak freak..lol..but I'm also a speed junky..can't nobody take my pride ain't nothing gonna hold me down oh no I've got to keep on moving..:daffy:

.....twisted addicts year-round...

awf170's + dmc's pretty much sum up my stoke, but add to those the fact that for ~30yrs ...never skied...until weeknights in the early 80s @Wachusett for $8/night...:spread:

Yep agree-- its both the physical and mental challange and the ability to do something diificult and risky, yet master both domains .

At 64 i've yet to grow up !! I am an adrenalin junky who just luv to rip and the look on my peers faces when they can't believe i'm whacky enough to ski in all conditions . My wife are very active , physically fit and enjoy several differaant sports as participant s-- WE are NOT spectators

I sk i with friends and family but often ski alone too -- hell its just the feeling of being ALIVE , Free and ABLE to do things most folks my age think improbable
