Ahhh! I really need to get up to Hunter but is it as crowded as everyone says it is? I have somehow never been up there, despite living 45 minutes away and riding for the last 4 or 5 years. Only been to Windham once as well...

Go on a weekday, it will be empty.

If you're going on a weekend, stay off the main lifts and trails. Ski the west side (Y and Z lifts), Ski the trails that are on the sides, ESD, Maybe Minya, K-27, Heuga is usually fairly empty as well. Mostly, just stay off Hellgate and Belt Pkwy. White Cloud to Wayout makes for a great run.

Thanks for the tips, I'll keep them in mind. Maybe I'll try to go up when some AZers are there, but honestly I'm not sure when I'll be able to pry myself away from Bell and Plattekill.

I find that Hunter is incredible for experts, and pretty good for beginners. Intermediates....look elsewhere.

Go take a day off during the week and ski it.

No "Prune" pictures...

But i did try it against everyones advice...

Punra was a cold hearted bitch... Wind scoured and bumped.... Hidden in the darkness...
It was doable - I hug the right side all the was down...

Claires was WAY better for me... Had to ride it technical... Pick the turns - but it was great...

I was hoping to talk the instructor into going over there but all reports where that it was pretty frozen.

I have to admit that amazes me, back in the day I remember standing in that lift line for over 30 minutes sometimes on a weekend.

Have skier visits dropped steadly over the past 5 years or so at Hunter?

not sure about the numbers...
The Westside can get jammed up but it's usually only a few minutes to wait on a weekend.. The Y chair also on the wst side, never has a line - it was open this weekend...

The main quad still has a 20 minute wait on a busy day.. But the triple next to it is usually empty...

the F lift got jammed up this weekend.. Easily a 10 minute wait...

No, it's more that people more and more equate HSQ's with getting up the mountain fast, even though the lines cancel out any benefit.

I have never seen that D lift crowded, although the B and F often are.

The HSQ has been there over 5 years...

Well.....duh

No, my point is that now, I hear a lot of people refuse to ski areas of mountains, or entire mountains because they don't have a HSQ. I didn't hear that as much 5 years ago.

Easy there... We're neighbors... No need to get all "duh" on me...

I guess you have a point about the HSQ....

Well I hope they never replace the Z lift. I like the old creaker just the way it is. Gives you some time to check the place out. Kind of like the single at MRG.
