I do and I'm 51. Just the open fun events like they have at WF and Gore. I don't expect to beat the young guns, but I still enjoy it.

Don't let age make you a WICKEDBUMMER, if you still got game like your handle suggests give it a try.

that is awesome that you still compete.
when they come up, I always wonder how I would do if I entered it. but I always blow them off. thinking round 1 is gonna be me against someone half my age. I've been doing that for so long now, I dont even consider getting in on them anymore.
its a mental block!
next event I'm around for I'll look into it and give it a shot.

Try the Hunter Mtn Mogul event in early April...pretty low key and everyone has fun just competing and hanging out.

Have to admit I've never really considered even trying boarding. It just looks so different and difficult to not be able to move your feet independently. And now I'm too old to spend a day (or 2 or more) falling all the time.

No new tricks for this old dog........sorry.....

Although i haven't been on a board for about 10 years I actually like it on soft snow but hate it on new england hardpack. Seeing as Mount Snow has limited powder days I haven't invested in a snowboard setup, so I am just a 2 planker now.

I never was able to pull a good 'copter or a double at will anyway. so I never would have made it very far. speed and style didnt count for much when I was young enough to compete. "air" was pretty much your score. it was who-ever pulled out the better trick. and I was/am just not very good at the tricks. I have my 2 or 3 BASIC old school tricks that I can still pull off and thats about it for "air".
I can still get in a line and rip it straight as an arrow for a hundred yards or so all day long. I dont think that would get me far in a bump competition now-a-days.

I feel the same way. I used to do the Glade-i-ator at Mount snow every year (until about 3 years ago) and although I had great turns and technique with out spinning, I just kept dropping further and further back and decided I don't need to spend 1-3 hours standing around for that, I would rather be sliding.

yes, I tried snowboarding 11 years ago, and loved it. I picked up tele two years before, but DH skiing is still my favorite, but I like being able to go anywhere on any piece of equipment anyday! Its really nice to have options! I do prefer the board in powder though, and skis on the rock hard stuff!

I own a board and am trying to learn. It is much more difficult to learn than skiing. Plus all that falling down on the learning curve hurts my butt... A LOT!

I think I'll figure out the boarding thing in a few seasons. I'm still working getting the skiing thing down though. First things first!

Went one time. Last year to spend time with my 19 year old daughter who boards and my 17 year old son who is a skier.

We had a lot of laughs mostly at my expense. Went up the bunny lift 3 times went down on my butt about 300 times.

There's a first time for everything and in this case it was also the last time!

Skied as a kid and in college then moved to an area with no reliable winter sports and skied 2 days in 20 years. 10 years ago a bunch of us from work went up to Sugarloaf and I found myself checking out the boarders. The next Christmas vacation my son and I took snowboard lessons - kinda hurt. Went 6 days that winter 3 on skis 3 on the board, the next season we bought a place up north, bought a board, and haven't been back on skis since. I keep saying someday I'll rent skis but I never seem to want to give up a day boarding. Love that whole sideways thing! I think that most skiers that try the board and don't pick it right up stop because they really don't want to be beginners again and thats ok. The skills really come pretty quickly though and I have had a great time with it. Without boarding I don't think I would have found my way back to the mountain like I have, maybe an occasional trip north but not the obsession it seems to be now. Maybe its a sickness, but I know its fun!
