I was wondering if anyone knew of some good summer certification classes for EMT or OEC in the greater Burlington area.

Dan:

Region 3 organizes the local EMT training, but AFAIK you need to be associated with a rescue service to get in on them; you'd need to check with local rescue services to see who might be looking for volunteers (probably most) and whose scheduling needs might match your own. OEC classes are far more likely to be happening later in the summer or in the fall and are generally scheduled by individual mountains. Try getting in touch with the patrol director(s) at any areas you'd be interested in patrolling at; they may or may not have any information right now but will probably be able to keep you informed later on as things get scheduled.

I would go the EMT route rather than OEC. I know that once you are an EMT you can easily challenge OEC and end up with both certs. I am not sure about VT but I know in NY you can not go from OEC to EMT.
