Anyone know what's going on at Magic...

Actually the message does sound like they will try and be open tomorrow. Early season at Magic typically means striking sparks with rock skis a few times. I have never seen the Black Chair be used as the primary lift. Here's to a large shot of snow coming on Sunday!

It's refreshing to see a company giving their customers an honest and straightforward assessment of conditions and what's going on with their mountain.

That level of honesty is great to see....can't wait to finally get there and see it for myself this year.

Magic should be open any day now. The snow storm coming tomorrow should be enough to open it. There is a season pass holder cocktail party tonight.

inability to make pay the electric bill?

IFYP [/potstirring]

Seriously though, I'm really looking forward to Magic opening. I sometimes think it's a shame Magic hasn't had the infusion of cash many NE mts experienced recently I'm reminded that is exactly what I like about the place... the corporate honchos haven't f'ed it up like almost every other mt.

so, being open is f'ed up?

Certainly not. Cutting wide boulevards is. Grooming everything is. Keeping trails with plenty of cover closed is. Placing lifts in exposed areas is. Shall I go on?

Perhaps in part due the lack of capital, Magic was never "improved" to the extent most other areas were - and therein lies a big part of it's charm.

I agree. magic is not your typical southern vermont ski area. Fast lifts are nice to ride up, but never ever make for a better run down.

what was the utility issue? electric, I presume? inability to make snow?

Some problem with CVPS. I think it's supposed to be fixed Monday and snow making should begin right away. The snow guns were put in position a couple of weeks ago so everything is ready to go. I talked to some people who walked up and skied down and they said there was a lot of cover up top and a little thinness at the bottom. The snow storm that's hitting right now (about 6-8"s so far) and a little snow making should make it fine. At the season pass holder cocktail party (big crowd, great snacks and drinks ) Jim Sullivan said they were shooting for Wed or Thurs opening. :daffy:

I don't think there is anyone here that is not in favor of smart sustainable development.

What is nice is that mother nature has been nice so nice to us so that hills like Magic can be open soon.

edit: or skinned by those with more drive than I, looking forward to the TR.

Magic was SWEET today. A lot of activity by the grooming and snowmaking team up there today, (although no guns were going) as well as few others who skinned up like Roark and I. I'll have a TR w/ pics up soon...

Snow was knee deep on Twilight Zone, and about a foot deep everywhere else lower. The groomer was out grooming everything it could (and I mean almost every trail! ) The Red chair was still missing tower 2's sheave train, and a lot of chairs were off the rope still, but the Black chair looked somewhat ready to go.
