ehh...i don't know about this... the forecast for the week isn't so hot. I can't see more than one trail from mid station to the main basde lodge ( actually in the middle of the mountain) opening untill december.

It is not that easy. The might already have all the personnel (lifties, etc) planned to be on payroll from Nov. 11.

That's a good point. I think however that they also want to start running their new lift and test it out. Also - they are state run so I'm not sure making a profit is really the biggest concern - the state could use a few losses to offset gains.
In reality as long as I can have some good trails on 12/15 their skier appreciation day I'll be happy.

The weather report is calling for some rain on wednesday. Should know for sure on Thursday. They may even open Friday. :snow:

CASH PRIZES FOR FIRST PLACE SKIER & RIDER! in the Rail Jam Saturday Nov 25 at 5pm. Many other prizes like free snowboards and skis. If your kid is half as good as he/she says they are, make sure they join in the fun.

I published a press release that I received today. I doubt they would make that announcement if they didn't think they could pull it off. But who knows...

Whoa whoa whoa. Friday? Hmmmm....

So...who knows about early season at Belleayre? I assume it's just one run. What's the terrain like? What the vertical off of Lift 7?

Wouldn't be the first time, they did it either last year or the year before. They still did their best and opened as soon as possible, unfortunetly, that wasn't as soon as they wanted.

Well, the slight warm-up this week is no secret. Perhaps they already have the snow they need? That's the only way I can imagine them sending that PR out today. I am seriously considering it for either Friday or Saturday...

Lift 7 serves 806 vertical feet if it is open to the top. From midstation down i would guess about 600 - 650 vert. Onteora is usually the first trail open. Some years it opens from the top down which is a short double diamond into a blue to black. Midstation down is rated black but is mellow for that rating. If I am not mistaken some years Onteora and Yahoo will open. Yahoo is a similar trail but slightly eaiser. However it opens it is snow and a ride to the top so I will be there loving it. Think cold!!

Thanks MarkC. Hell, 800' ain't bad. The glades area at Killington is probably less than that. I'll try to get some detail in terms of what will be available tomorrow.

so only a diamond trail will be open? Will it be too hard for a novice? I am not sure how the conditions are due to the minimal snow base.

From mid-station down it is a blue square intermediate trail. No green circle beginner trails will be opened this weekend.

If by chance the top is openned it is single diamond <> to <><>double diamond from top to mid-station depending on snow conditions.
