Personally speaking Wildcat the view from the base area of Wildcat is cool but you don't get the view of Tucks and Mt Washington like it is up on the mountain. i took some picks last time I was there and walked over to the extreme northeast corner of the parking lot and is was better but still nothing like the view as your skiing down.

If you look up just before entering the lower level of the base lodge after the last run; the view of Washington's ravines towering above the roof in the late afternoon sunlight and shadows can almost look like Chamonix.

Cannon. Lafayette FTW!

Wildcat... can't really see much of Mount Wash from the base. Loaf... The Corner picture above is great and is better than the actual base view. The base view sure is something though. I still love Lafayette standing tall over Cannon though. Loaf gets second place for my tastes.

Good thread. Interesting twist.

I'd have to agree with Cannon but the Loaf is a close second. Not my pic, found it on Google.

What the above shots of Cannon don't capture is that sense of being totally enveloped by high peaks. Mount Lafayette just looms huge and large (neither pics above show Lafayette) and then you have Cannon on the other side. You have Eagle Cliffs across the way, etc. Its just so much more dynamic than most other mountain's base areas.

One of the things I love about Sugarloaf is the instant stoke you get when you see the mountain. The ride-up from Kingfield is just a long tease. You know you are getting close as the valley is closing in. You round oh-my-gosh corner and there it is - instant stoke. If you are already in the valley it is the same thing when you step out the door.

Saddleback is similar, but the time between the great views and hitting the slopes is two long.

Great topic.

Getting alittle off track here but I want to second Riv's point of view, no pun intended lol, of the Lafeyette Ridge from Cannon which has forever been in my image bank from when we hiked Cannon when I was maybe 10yo. The view from the MWV is awesome, the view from the westside pf the presidentials from the Mt Washington Hotel area is amazing but the steepness and the tightness of Franconia Notch with Lafeyette and it ridge neighbors towering above 93 is one of a kind in the east.

The feeling from OMG corner is something... especially the 1st time you do it... but turn on to the access Rd at SL... just after the access Rd curves pretty well left at The Rack you get the full MT straight on. The pitch at that point in the access Rd requires you to lean forward while driving to see the whole MT - otherwise the summit snowfields are cut off by your vehicle's roof line. When your driving, you lean forward the entire trip up the access Rd because it is hard to believe how big the MT looks. Done it 100's of times and I still think the One Big Motha ad compaign in the 90's made sense.

The view of killington from certain spots on East Mountain Road is quite spectacular. I can't find anything online but when I run across one I'll post if up.

Right where I want to be
Yes Cannon with the views of the notch. Also looking toward it coming across from Twin Mountain.

The reason SL has a good view is because you have been driving for a half of day by the time you get there.
Girls always like better at closing time! :)

Nice. There are much better, but I still like it cuz it was the first "Big" resort view driving in that left an impression on me.

And you all can call me silly as much as you want, but this little hill still gets me pumped on a 55 degree bluebird day when it looks like this:
