I saw a documentary on it on Modern Marvels. I'm dying to drive it now. I figure I can skip the flight down to Florida to visit my parents one time and drive it. Anybody drive on it? How far out of the way of I95? Is it worth the extra time?

Thanks

Take a couple of days in the spring when it's still cold and wet up in NY and drive I-81 from PA to Asheville, NC. You'll never regret it. Lots of great places to see, lots of side-of-the-road hikes, and lots of tourist traps, too. But a beautiful ride.

I've been on a small part of it between Asheville & a bit north of Mt. Mitchell. Lots of views, worthwhile but out of the way if heading to FL.

If doing hiking or climbing in the Asheville area, Black Dome Sports is the retailer you want to go see for info & any gear.
